Job description

Duties Serves as a Regional Network Engineer for the Midwest Region Network Enterprise Center responsible for all functional requirements regarding Network automated information systems, concepts and plans to ensure the stability, reliability, and integrity of the organization's network services across the Midwest Region. Plans, designs, and develops Regional local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) in support of organizational and customer requirements. Performs network analysis on total throughput throughout the Region to include analyzing data communication traffic volumes, network bandwidth capacity, peak loading spikes, and the overall effect any modifications will have to data networks internal and external to the Region. Develops, updates, and maintains Regional Network centric technical and security policies, procedures, techniques, tactics, and procedures (TTPs) to ensure standard documentation policies and procedures across the Region for Network centric systems, processes, facilities, and equipment. As a senior network Information Technology (IT) subject matter expert (SME), provides technical advice, guidance, and direction to team members (lower graded IT Specialists, Service Support Specialists, and contractor personnel) as required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Three year trial/probationary period may be required. This is a Non-Critical-Sensitive, Secret security clearance This position requires the employee to occasionally travel (in the most expedient manner) away from the normal duty station up to 10%. Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license. Position requires frequent handling and/or heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires physical examination. Incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoDM 8140.03, Cyberspace workforce qualification and management program, dated 15 Feb 2023 or updated version and/or additional guidance incumbent to their position within six months Employee will update certifications, as appropriate, to maintain 'current' status. (3) Oral Communication Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: convincingly conveying complex information to customers; presenting thoughts that are well-organized and demonstrating confidence in the facts and ideas; adjusting style when working with individuals with different levels of understanding; using various methods to explain and convey information. (4) Problem Solving Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
