Job description

Provides advanced knowledge and leadership in the professional development of nursing staff and in the care of defined patient populations. This includes clinical practice, educational activities, performance improvement and research in accordance with the standards of nursing care and practice as defined by the hospital and the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsibility for planning, organizing and evaluating system nursing orientation & all orientation programs for nursing professional staff. Assesses learning needs of colleagues and plans, organize, coordinate, and implement education based upon their assessment Participates in department and leadership meetings and committees acting as a practice and educational resource. Participates in planning, establishing and implementing goals, programs and /or projects that facilitate the attainment of strategic, operational and/or department goals. Fosters the educational development of patients and families thru the following: Develops educational tools for patient education Provides education and/or consultation within the realm of individual clinical expertise Develops staff teaching skills to provide patient and family education Develops/coordinates competency-based orientation and development for staff in clinical service areas. Develops and maintains competency tools for orientation and staff development. Consults with directors, peers, and other staff to meet individualized employee competency/education needs. Work with unit directors to identify & develop clinical preceptors. Develop a clinical orientation program for clinical preceptors, and assist with on-going meetings for the professional development of clinical preceptors Provides/coordinates opportunities for advanced practice i.e. TNCC, ACLS, certification etc. Provides continuing education based on hospital and/or community-based needs. Coordinates outcome-based education to meet education requests such as new product in-services, skills fairs, etc. Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). Serves a population newborn through geriatric. Provides leadership and consultation in process improvement activities. Utilizes and disseminates research findings to promote evidence-based practice, ongoing improvement of patient outcomes, and professional performance. Acts as a change agent in collaboration and consultation with multidisciplinary team members to develop innovative approaches to clinical practice and care delivery. Serves as a professional role model and promotes effective communication among all disciplines. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Computer skills. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or the ability to attain within 3 years of hire) Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in a hospital setting PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: MSN with a focus in clinical specialty preferred REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas, or RN Compact License recognized by Kansas Healthcare Provider BLS (or able to attain within 30 days of hire/end of orientation).
