About the role

This position will support the operations of the DWC CPA's payroll team by applying knowledge of payroll taxes including federal, state, local, and paid family leave to maintain compliance as the Lead Senior Payroll Tax Specialist.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • This position is the Lead on Multi-state payroll processing.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of tax payments for federal, state, and unemployment taxes, including periodic tax amendments, deposits and reconciliation utilizing various payroll software.
  • Research and respond to tax agency tax notices
  • Report concerns to Partner(s) when issues are identified and/or escalated
  • Ensure consistency in workflow and organizing of folders within team (4-5 members)
  • Provide back-up support to other Payroll team members
  • Maintain high degree of professionalism and strict confidentiality with payroll data.
  • Perform routine payroll tax audits to identify errors and apply corrections
  • Communicate easily with customers with understanding and empathy
  • Researches and resolves multi-state payroll inquiries and related issues.
  • Works closely with team members to ensure accurate multi-state payroll configuration.
  • Participate in special projects and/or other duties assigned

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) years of Payroll Tax support experience across multiple states (7 states or more) and/or jurisdictions.
  • Experience with payroll software
  • Strong W-2 reconciliation experience and understanding - Required
  • Accountants World Experience (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience managing processes related to payroll tax policies and current tax regulations.
  • Strong tax, accounting, and general ledger skillset
  • Strong experience with tax account set ups and payroll tax returns.
  • Strong problem solving and possesses the ability to work independently
  • Ability to research when needed
  • Ability to Oversee Department - Strong communication skills
  • Confident working with highly sensitive/confidential information
  • Detail oriented and organized
