Job description
SUMMARY:
This position consists of coordinating and performing all duties associated with inks and print/tint color matching procedures as well as digital processes to produce samples in the development phase of a new project, concept or design according to client and designer specifications. This hands-on opportunity requires keen attention to detail and quality throughout the life of a project. Protoype Color Technicians handcraft or digitally create samples based on concepts and colors provided by our clients or the Customs Designer, therefore, it is better suited for individuals looking to pursue a career in Fine Arts, Interior Design, Graphic Design or related field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and handle stress under pressure to effectively manage time and conflicting priorities to meet project deadlines based on schedule, availability of tools and Designers input
- Ability to formulate, match or mix inks through the application of color tinting techniques with the goal of reproducing the look and appearance of samples provided by either a client or Designer(s)
- Ability to communicate and take direction from Designer(s) and Supervisor(s)
- Able to accept constructive criticism to acquire essential knowledge about the designing and creative process used in the Industry
- Examine cylinders and/or silkscreen(s) to detect flaws in stencils or foreign particles prior to production of samples
- Pull proofs in print cylinders or silkscreens to check for ink coverage, density, alignment, and image registration
- Inspect proofs or samples for quality of color and print and adjust (if necessary) after feedback from Designer(s) or Customer(s) is provided
- Assist in completing sampling or trialing of gravure cylinders on a printing press.
- Create or update project folders according to standard process including attaching samples of produced print(s), customer swatches, base film(s), color targets, revisions, number of coats (passes), and tools used in the project
- Clean stations and/or cylinders after each run to minimize contamination of inks due to residual byproduct
- Follow operational, safety and quality control procedures
- Maintain a clean and uncluttered workspace
- Aid in maintaining the order of silkscreen(s) tools and Strike-Offs in their designated storage locations
- Familiar with the use of standard printing tools and supplies
- Knowledge of standard office software programs
- Knowledge of design software programs such as Photoshop
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associates of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Interior Design or related field and 1+ year of experience in a graphic or printing environment OR Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Interior Design or related field OR a combination of education and experience in a graphic or printing environment.
In addition, a successful candidate must possess basic knowledge of software design tools (i.e. Photoshop, Corel Suite, Flexo, AutoCAD, MS Visual Studio) as well as intermediate knowledge of standard office productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles. Color management experience is a preferred but not required.
