Job description

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the states largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In additional to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.

Position Purpose:

The Gleaners2Go Production Supervisor is responsible for planning, overseeing, and improving all processes involved in the receipt, production, and distribution of Gleaners2Go orders (individual, custom grocery orders) to program partners in a manner that ensures that we meet all operational and customer service objectives while ensuring compliance with safety, security, regulatory, and compliance policies. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential Functions of the Production Supervisor:

  • Supervise all activities relating to order fulfillment for the program and assembly areas
    • Lead and monitor the accuracy of production and assembly activities for Gleaners2Go including product setup and teardown, order building, and supervising staff/volunteers to properly and accurately complete daily tasks.
    • Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill orders, meet inventory requirements, and deliver product in a timely fashionEnsure the correct processes are followed for fulfillment and distribution
    • Work proactively with other departments as needed.
    • Oversee volunteer order fulfillment and volunteer experience
    • Provide insight and assistance for developing and testing new features on eCommerce site.
    • Develop and maintain written Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
    • With Sr. Supply Chain & Logistics Manager, establish metrics, baselines, targets, and goals to measure all processes and monitor the performance of these metrics to identify opportunities to drive process improvements
  • Manage Inventory
    • Ensure food supply available matches content on website as available; adjust product as needed; place orders; manage eCommerce software
    • Conduct daily and weekly inventory counts with your team
    • Coordinate with Food Strategy team to distribute high-priority items
  • Work with Volunteer team to plan for volunteer needs and create volunteer training to support
    • Order fulfillment
    • Provide an exceptional volunteer experience
  • Assist with logistics in preparing a site to be a pick-up location
    • Provide technical support assistance for internal Programs Team
  • Work safely and operate PIT equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products
  • Promote and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Supervise, hire, train, motivate, coach, manage performance, discipline, and evaluate direct reports.
  • Administrative and budgetary responsibilities
    • Ensure that all work is performed to a cost-effective, high standard.
    • Maintain the required paperwork and assist with annual budgets and reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Production Supervisor:

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of administrative/customer service experience
  • Prior experience in Supply Chain or Logistics is desired
  • Multi-Lingual preferred, but not required

Qualifications of the Production Supervisor:

  • Ability to train and lead a group of individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation communications skills.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, to count accurately and maintain accurate records
  • Distinguish between case and pallet counts versus pallet weights as required, understand pallet numbers, inventory lots, and warehouse locations
  • eCommerce/POS platform upkeep, including process and developmental input
  • Ability to use manual and electronic warehouse documentation tools including barcode hardware and ERP (Warehouse/Inventory Management System)
  • Ability to create, analyze and present reports
  • Forklift certification (or ability to be certified)
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment with multifaceted demands
  • A commitment to full and visible participation as a hunger relief leader in the community
