Job description
Duties Determines test method, and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection. Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems. Applies magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts. Uses and maintains tools. Maintains bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and documents actions. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment National Guard Membership is required. Technicians are required to perform annual task evaluations on each inspection duty in order to maintain certification. Qualifications MILITARY GRADES: E3 through E5 COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENTS: 2A752 The policy to have a compatible MOS/AFSC has been suspended. When reinstated, you will have one year to meet the qualifications of this position or meet the requirements in the guidance set by NGB. GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws. Experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies, and recommending courses of action for items of equipment. Experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority. Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures. Ability to make independent determinations during the inspection process to select the inspection technique required and the calibration procedure; and evaluate defects, their nature, size, scope, and exact locations, and independently determine if the article should be accepted or rejected. Ability to follow technical orders engineering drawings, technical data, workbooks, and Non-Destructive Testing Instructions (NDI) literature to determine inspection requirements and area(s) to be examined. Ability to identify, locate, and measure hidden and subsurface flaws, corrosion, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures; integrity of welds; precision dimensional and volume measurements; and hardness of materials. Knowledge of the various shapes, sizes, and density of flaw indications in parts, components, and materials being tested. Knowledge of the full range of characteristics of metals identification; wear metals identification and content; metal discontinuity and flaw detection; operation and maintenance of nondestructive test and oil analysis equipment; radiological safety and radiation monitoring procedures; technical orders and directives; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
