The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) has been the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus for more than 100 years. Everyday thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests enjoy the many amenities and opportunities the IMU has to offer. Student Involvement and Leadership Center staff work to foster growth and learning among students and student organizations by supporting inclusive and engaging experiences through the creation and execution of co-curricular programs and services.

Job Summary

The Student Peer Facilitator role is an opportunity to work on team-building activities with various campus and community partners as part of the Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC) Leadership program. In your role as the facilitator of programs designed to help their organization succeed, network with faculty, staff, and student leaders.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Works with the Leadership Programs Coordinator and the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement in fulfilling custom program facilitation requests. These requests vary in nature but are typically a few hours and are focused on participants getting to know themselves and those around them better.
  • Plans and facilitates educational workshops that enhance leadership skills, group cohesion, communication, trust, and an appreciation and respect for others.
  • Assists the Leadership Programs Coordinator and the Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement in the creation of new Leadership Program materials developed collaboratively with campus partners.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 1 year of experience working in a customer service role
SKILLS

Required
  • Interest in working with people and helping them grow as both individuals and within their group
  • Ability to learn about and apply an inclusive mindset when designing workshops
Preferred
  • Interest in developing leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of IU systems and policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills using a variety of mediums

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$14.00 per hour

Work Hours

Flexibility in scheduling, some evening and weekend hours may be required.

No more than 29 hours per week.
