Job Summary

The Director of Proposal Development directs the design, development, and implementation of all proposals for the Kelley School of Business - Bloomington.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research at KSOB-B and works with KSOB-B leadership and faculty.
  • Develops and implements Kelley-Bloomington research priorities around the school's research strengths to generate high-impact funding opportunities.
  • Oversees proposal development activities, including identification of external and internal funding opportunities of particular importance to the school, training KSOB-B faculty via workshops, and proposal development and coordination for funding opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains technical expertise and relationships necessary to create complex proposals and other key research initiatives that deliver on the overall mission/vision of KSOB-B.
  • Works with funding agencies to better understand current and upcoming Request for Applications that are appropriate for pursuit.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides high level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define research development approaches, processes, and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority and executive research development projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase research development initiatives.
  • Oversees the development of new strategies in order to pursue external funding across all areas of research and scholarly activity.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Collaborates with and serves on senior leadership teams and multi-discipline, multi-campus advisory groups.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of technical resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and works collaboratively with senior leaders, research compliance, and other stakeholders in recommending development standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in related field)
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years research administration or related experience
  • 1 years of management experience
Preferred
  • 5 years of grant/proposal development experience
  • Experience in a large institution of higher education and/or in a funding agency such as a Foundation or Government Unit

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and KSOB-B needs.
