Position Title: Engineering Technician II (Explosive) Company: Tri-County Steel LLC (TCS) Location: On-site at NSWC Crane Employment Type: Full-time Salary: Commensurate with experience. Job Summary: We are seeking a mechanically inclined candidate with a strong aptitude for problem-solving and fabrication . This role involves working hands-on with explosive related devices, supporting the development and testing of innovative customer solutions. The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with engineers and other technicians, applying their mechanical skills and attention to detail to assist in the assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical systems. Essential Functions: Explosives Handling: Assist in the handling, setup, and testing of explosives and related systems. Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols during all operations. Developmental Work: Support engineers in the development and testing of explosive related devices. Contribute to research and development efforts by providing hands-on support in assembling, m odifying , and testing components. Mechanical Aptitude: Use hand and power tools to assemble, modify , and maintain mechanical systems. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems to ensure operational effectiveness. Data Collection and Reporting: Record detailed test data, assess results, and provide feedback to engineers. Maintain clear and accurate documentation of work performed and outcomes achieved. Safety Protocols: Follow strict safety procedures while working with hazardous materials. Ensure adherence to all prescribed safety protocols, including proper handling of explosive materials and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on test equipment and machinery used in explosives testing. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and in working condition. Technical Support: Assist engineers and senior technicians in troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and testing tasks. Provide hands-on assistance in laboratory and field environments. Experience and Skills: High School diploma required ; technical school diploma or prior military experience preferred. 2+ years of experience in an environment focused on troubleshooting, repair, and testing of mechanical or electromechanical systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience using hand and power tools for mechanical work. Ability to work in a team environment, assisting engineers and senior technicians in developmental tasks. Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow safety protocols, especially when working with explosives and hazardous materials. Must be able to pass DOT Medical Exam. Must o btain Explosive Certification within 3 months of appointment. Possess a valid state driver's license. Desired Qualifications: Flexibility to cope with dynamic high-pressure environments and short-fused or rapidly changing deadlines and prioritization. Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member. Analytical problem solver with high attention to detail. Must be organized and process-oriented . Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions. Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks involving bending, reaching, and manual dexterity. Ability to work in a laboratory or field setting, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required . Travel: Minimal travel may be required based on project needs.
