Job description
- To maintain, calibrate, service, troubleshoot and repair one or more of the following equipment types: Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE),ADD platform instruments, and control systems. This equipment is used in manufacturing, quality assurance, tech support, research and development, distribution center, and plant utilities areas.
- May be required to work on a variety of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, process control systems, and optical types of equipment.
Accountability/Scope:
- The Instrument Service Technician II provides support to the manufacturing, tech support, quality assurance, research and development, distribution center, and plant utilities areas.
- The position requires compliance with all safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Information provided by this position is used to make routine and quality decisions.
- Work performed by the technician is subject to review by higher levels if significant results are found.
- Problem solving by the technician is often task/activity based and conclusions are drawn from testing and direct observation.
- The technician exercises broad discretion in technical decisions ,interacts independently with other departments (i.e. production and other functions),and is capable of functioning in all areas of support.
- The Instrument Service Technician I may report to the group leader ,supervisor, senior supervisor, or department manager.
- The technician may obtain training and guidance from any of these management personnel and subject matter experts.
Additional Main Responsibilities from Legacy System:
- Major Responsibilities Quality/Regulatory: Demonstrates knowledge of applicable safety/quality standard and practices required in the manufacture of ADD products through personal work habits. Inspects equipment, standards, parts and mechanical components for errors, flaws, and certification/calibration status prior to use to insure proper operation.
- Works to develop more effective ways of detecting and correcting errors and takes appropriate corrective actions. Investigates and makes recommendations for solving M&TE hardware and measurement problems.
- Follows and works within GMP/GLP and/or Safety requirements at all times in accordance with established company policies.
- Ensures skills and training are adequate to be both compliant and productive with job tasks and confirms performance by soliciting feedback.
- Stays informed of changes in manufacturing methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Resolves problems by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data accurately.
- Reports problems on a timely and accurate basis, and seeks additional information when problem is beyond area of personal expertise.
- Attends instructor led training and performs assigned training curriculum prior to Due Dates to avoid late training instances.
- Attends offsite instructor led training on equipment utilized by customers and within areas of support.
- Execution: Coordinates and prioritizes daily workload.
- Performs skilled calibrations/services/repair on M&TE,ADD platform instruments, or control systems per written policies and procedures.
- Processes, completes, reviews and routes Purchase Orders and Calibration Test Records Maximo work orders to proper personnel according to procedures with accuracy and timeliness.
- Reviews and approves (as directed) Electronic Calibration Requests.
- Analyzes calibration/service data to develop appropriate correction factors and curves.
- Develops techniques as necessary to ascertain that newly acquired or developed M&TE performs in accordance with required specifications.
- Develops detailed reports for project assignments including as necessary, historical background, theoretical basis, nature of project/problem, method of solution, results or conclusions and recommendations. Assists in establishing and documenting the methods and sequence of operation required to calibrate newly acquired or developed M&TE.
- Assists in design of process control or analytical systems for small to medium size projects.
- Design automated calibration systems, coordinate installation and start up of same ,including pre and post calibrations according to validation protocols.
- Refers to manuals or other written and on-line reference material in the course of diagnosing equipment or machine malfunctions.
- Reads and interprets equipment drawings,diagrams,etc.,in order to diagnose proper operations, preventive maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Performs consultation in determining the type of M&TE most appropriate for use in manufacturing, research, and quality areas.
- Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
- Identifies wasteful or non-value added materials and activities Reads and interprets schematics, wiring, diagrams, programs, etc. and asks questions ,in order to fully understand and diagnose proper operations of equipment.
- Makes plans to safely and successfully accomplish assigned work activities.
- Identifies and obtains appropriate tools, parts ,and additional labor necessary to complete a task or project.
- Maintains an organized and clean personal work area as well as common group shop areas.
- Develops and utilizes skills in various software programs such as Computerized Maintenance Management System (e.g.
- MAXIMO),word processing spreadsheet and presentation to execute jog functions.
- Builds knowledge of various laboratory, research & development, or process instrumentation.
- Communication & Teamwork: Knows who key customers are ,understands their requirements, and interacts with them in a timely and professional manner.
- Actively searches for ways to meet or exceed customer expectations and increase customer satisfaction.
- Completes required documentation legibly to GMP guidelines.
- Understands written instructions (e.g. OP's GMP's EOP's).
- Communicates in a clear and concise manner to co workers supervisors auditors or customers in both one on one or in group settings.
- Required to share expertise with others in the group or area of support.
- Interacts and communicates with external customers and vendors.
- Asks questions of and listens to others to get information so work is completed safely and to expected standards.
- Works effectively with individuals from other departments/work units.
- Provides on-the-job instruction guidance and/or training to other technicians of level I and II on how to perform tasks.
- Suggests development goals and gets help or helps oneself to improve performance.
- The minimum requirement for this position is a high school education/equivalent and two years of qualifying experience.
- Preferred requirements are an associate degree in electronics technology/equivalent or 2 years trades training/equivalent.
- Comparable military service training may be acceptable if it is directly applicable to the job assignment.
- Two or more years of electrical, electronic, mechanical and optical theory and related test procedures to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and modify various types of M&TE.
