Job Description

High-Throughput Characterization Internship Overview

The Molecular Profiling and Drug Delivery (MPDD) group sits within the Small Molecule CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control) organization. MPDD is accountable for a broad range of deliverables across various stages of drug discovery and development. During lead optimization and through candidate selection, MPDD scientists utilize state of the art automation and computational tools supported by expertise in biopharmaceutics, drug delivery, and solid-state chemistry to collaborativelyprogress candidates with higher probability of success intodevelopment and advise clinical formulation strategy.

Under the supervision of MPDD scientists, the intern will contribute to the development, validation and implementation of a high-throughput assay to perform drug characterization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop hypothesis-driven experimental plans to use spectroscopic methods for high-throughput chemical characterization of drug candidates.
  • Independently execute in vitro experiments and collect data to support hypotheses.
  • Develop novel data analysis techniques to establish the relationship between observations and known molecular characterization to enable predictive tool development.

This internship will be based in North Chicago, IL.


Qualifications

MinimumQualifications

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, or other related field.
  • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expected graduation date between December 2025 July 2026.
  • Fundamental knowledge of physicochemical properties, biopharmaceutical properties, and pharmacokinetics as they relate to drug delivery and formulation design.
  • Proficient in basic laboratory skills including pipetting, solution preparation, and dilution.
  • Experience in HPLC/UPLC operation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot experiments and identify/solve problems in experimental designs, including laboratory experimentation.
  • Ability to apply research findings and interpret/analyze results; develop and implement a logical and strategic plan of action.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-performance culture with excellent time management, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
