What are we looking for in our Senior R&D Applications Scientist - Applications?

The Scientific Team at Russell Tobin & Associates is supporting a global industrial minerals organization that has an opening for a direct hire Sr. R&D Applications Scientist near Dekalb, IL!

Responsibilities

• Identify new product applications from a range of performance-enhancing products derived from diatomaceous earth, perlite, clay and industrial sand.
• Plan and conduct research projects in the lab, lead scale-up/pilot projects, generate intellectual property, and lead the progression of R&D projects
• Serve as the technical lead for qualifying new products with select customers
• Provide technical support to the company's Operations, Sales, and Technical Service groups
• Prepare presentations
• Prepare invention disclosures and support the patent filing process
• Support and mentor less experienced colleagues

Requirements

• Experience developing novel methods to qualify new product application performance
• Must have a proven track recorde of product development and commercialization
• Experience in building materials, plastics, CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers)
• Masters degree or Doctorate degree
• 9 years of relevant industrial experience in the mining and industrial minerals sector
• Experience working with customers
• Expeirence working with silica (quarts/cristobalite, diatomaceous earth, perlite) is nice to have

Additional Details:

• 20% travel to visit select customers, plants or conferences
• Salary target: $135,000-148,000/year depending on experience

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
