Mechanical Machinist Superintendent Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Machinist Superintendent to be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and supervision of mechanical machining activities in the shipyard. This role involves managing a team of machinists and technicians, ensuring that all machining operations are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Mechanical Machinist Superintendent Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a team of machinists, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and project scopes to ensure proper planning and execution of machining tasks.
  • Ensure that all machining operations are performed in compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
  • Monitor the progress of machining projects, troubleshooting any issues that arise and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate with other departments, including engineering, welding, and project management, to ensure seamless integration of machining work with other shipyard operations.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of machining tools and equipment, scheduling preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to machinists and technicians to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Prepare progress reports, work schedules, and job assignments for machinists and other personnel under supervision.
  • Communicate with clients and project managers regarding project status, timelines, and any necessary changes to machining work.
  • Participate in project planning meetings, providing input on resources, timelines, and machining requirements.

Mechanical Machinist Superintendent Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience; Associates degree in Industrial Trades/Applied Science is preferred
  • 10 years of experience in shipyard heavy industry
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches
  • Experience with US Navy Ship repair/NAVSEA regulation is preferred
  • Proficient with Word and Excel
  • Extensive knowledge of ship repair processes
  • Knowledge of managing Federal Contracts
  • Able obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally
