Job description

Duties SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The position functions to analyze malfunctions, troubleshoot, remove, install, repair, modify, maintain, test, align, calibrate and certify the components of the aircraft electrical system the electronically and pneumatically controlled environmental system, and associated test equipment, and to certify these systems are air worthy, by intensive inspections of the Electrical/Electronic and Environmental System and peripherals. Performs functional tests, analyzes performance and troubleshoots the electronic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical functions of the subsystems integrated into the digital brake/antiskid system, maintenance annunciation panel (MAP) system of the integrated main generator, standby generator, emergency generator, flight control power, AC/DC power distribution and sub-systems integrated into the electronic/electrical and environmental systems. Removes, repairs, calibrates, installs, aligns, inspects, and conducts operational performance checkouts on the components of the electronic/electrical and environmental systems. Provides technical guidance, advice and/or assistance to other work centers on the interrelationship of electronic/electrical and environmental systems and their respective system, to include flight controls, offensive fire control radar, weapon release, communications, hydraulic, fuel, engine and egress. Processes and accounts for supply assets in the repairable processing system to maintain aircraft records, inspection records, and equipment maintenance in computer systems (CAMS). Inspects, tests and performs operative maintenance on cryogenic and gaseous oxygen and nitrogen servicing equipment. Provides on-the-job training to lower grade personnel concerning repair of the electronic/electrical and environmental equipment, aircraft system line replaceable units (LRUs), and aircraft electrical/environmental systems. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness inspections (ORI), Inspector General (IG) inspections, Unit Effectiveness Inspections and mobility and command support exercises. Performs other duties as assigned. Details of the duties and responsibilities are contained in the applicable position description (D1549P01) which can be provided to you by HRO. Requirements Conditions of Employment Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. GENERAL Experience : Experience or training which has provided a knowledge and skill in locating and tying in the electrical systems with the aircraft armament, electronics, and instrument systems; adjusting and calibrating the components of the various electrical systems; reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. SPECIALIZED Experience : Must have at least 18 months of experience or training installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying electrical systems and major substation components of electrical system. Experience diagnosing malfunctions and determining remedy when complex relationships exists among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems. Experience making electrical repairs that require the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools. Experience in the setup and operation of computerized multiple circuit analyzing equipment in manual, semiautomatic, or automatic mode to run existing and new (not fully debugged) diagnostic programs to test and analyze aircraft electrical circuitry and interconnecting cabling of systems such as navigational computers, radar, and related equipment and to repair discrepancies. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Routinely required to lift heavy objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally, lifts items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors. May work in inclement weather on icy, wet, hot, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, work stands, ladders, and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating aircraft surfaces such as speed brakes, flaps, and landing gear, engine noise, heat blast, and intake suction. Subject to dangers of high voltage. Subject to injuries such as hydrazine contamination, electrical shock, cuts, bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy, hot equipment, or by soldering irons. May work in a high noise environment. MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. 2. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. 3. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor. b. Current T5 Employees/T32 Technicians who have permanent tenure will occupy this position as a Temporary Promotion Year to Year not to exceed 5 years. Temporary promotion may be converted to a Permanent Promotion without further competition if the position becomes available. Selectee may return to his/her former graded position when the Temporary Promotion is no longer needed and may be effected at any time without adverse action procedures. m. T32 Technicians /T5 Employees with permanent tenure will lose their permanent status if selected and will be converted to T5/T32 Indefinite. If selected Indefinite tenure appointments may be separated when their services are no longer needed or when funding is no longer available via a 30-day termination notice. Indefinite tenure appointments will be eligible for health and life insurance coverage and will be covered under a retirement system. n.
