Location Smyrna, GA (Metro Atlanta) Project/Unit Description The Antenna Systems Division works on projects involving all portions of modern antennas - from analog RF at the radiator to digital beams. The division engages in the design, production, and testing of prototype radar, EW, and communications antennas for various sponsors, mostly in the DOD community. The division currently has both large and small projects ranging from prototyping a deployable active, electronically scanned radar to developing RFICs. Our research faculty have expertise in:
• Phased array antenna technology
• Radar system antennas
• High power microwave directed energy systems
• Antenna and RF PCB modeling and simulation
• Antenna measurement in far-field and near-field ranges
• EMI/EMC modeling and testing
• RF design and simulation software: HFSS, FEKO, CST, ADS, Cadence, XPATCH, Modelica, NEC, Altium, Simulink, Matlab
• Working with all TRL levels of antenna systems Job Purpose Designs, develops, analyzes, and tests Radio Frequency (RF) hardware, including antenna, transmitter, and receiver hardware. Designs and develops RF hardware as part of a system architecture over a range of frequencies from 3 kHz to 300 GHz. Analyzes RF hardware performance with modeling and simulation tools, including electromagnetic computational codes. Characterizes and tests RF hardware performance in a stand-alone laboratory environment and in an installed system environment. Prototypes RF hardware and systems to determine design feasibility. Integrates COTS and custom designed RF hardware into large scale systems. Plans and conducts RF hardware component tests and system level testing in a lab and on installed systems to verify specification compliance and system performance. Key Responsibilities Perform design and theory research tasks as directed by task lead Perform lab testing tasks as directed by task lead Document work of design, theory, and test in written and presentation form as part of a team Additional Responsibilities RF/Antenna design, modeling, and simulation Incorporation of system-level requirements into phased array designs and operation Testing of antenna subsystems up to full-scale RF coupling and effects testing EMI/EMC modeling and testing Required Minimum Qualifications Modeling and simulation experience with MATLAB (experience with computational electromagnetic codes such as HFSS, CST, or FEKO a plus) Antenna design knowledge Experience with antenna-related hardware Phased array antenna theory and hardware knowledge Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December 2024. Preferred Qualifications Active Secret Clearance Background in electromagnetic theory EMI/EMC testing experience Antenna test, measurement, and integration experience Working knowledge of radar, EW, and/or high power microwave system function Travel Requirements Education and Length of Experience This position vacancy is an open-rank announcement.
