Job description

A rapidly growing construction firm, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join the team. The ideal candidate will take charge of the financial and accounting functions, while also managing office operations. This dual-role position requires excellent communication and multitasking abilities, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management & Reporting:


    • Prepare and review monthly financial statements to 3rd party CPA firm
    • Collaborate with leadership to review financial statements and create budgets, ensuring fiscal health and responsibility.
    • Oversee the monthly job cost report process and update work-in-progress reports for internal and external use.
    • Prepare the annual financial budget and update forecasts quarterly.
    • Assist in strategic planning with the leadership team, including due diligence and financial projections for growth opportunities.
  • Accounts & Payroll:


    • Oversee accounts receivable progress billings based on contract terms.
    • Review accounts receivable aging reports and assist with collections.
    • Supervise vendor and subcontractor payments, ensuring lien waivers are properly collected.
    • Monitor daily cash balances to ensure financial requirements are met.
    • Prepare weekly payroll for employees.
  • Office & IT Management:


    • Supervise the Front Desk Administrative Assistant.
    • Manage IT-related issues and become proficient in QuickBooks, ProCore, and Levelset.
    • Perform special assignments as directed by the leadership team.
  • Insurance & Risk Management:


    • Review and procure business and health insurance programs for all entities.
    • Maintain insurance and risk protection programs, including builders' risk policies.
    • Assist in managing the company's IRA or 401(k) plan and other employee benefits.
  • Vendor & Contract Management:


    • Prepare construction subcontractor contract schedules and assist Project Managers with contract management.
    • Meet with the company's bankers and bonding company to review financial results and forecasts.


Necessary Skills & Qualifications:


  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, ProCore, and Levelset, or the ability to quickly become proficient.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage both financial and office management tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the leadership team.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
