General Description and Classification Standards Manages the activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery and needs assessment of safety training and development programs for assigned department(s). This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Manages the activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery and needs assessment of safety training and development programs for assigned department(s).
  • Joins in partnership with department management to assess and implement safety training and programs.
  • Determines department needs for safety training.
  • Develops and/or approves content, methods, and materials for training staff and may conduct courses.
  • Develops methods for evaluation of all safety training.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations and manages the budget preparation, submittal and administration.
  • Creates operating plans, forecasts and reporting systems.
  • Develops organizational structure and selects, develops and manages staff.
  • Establishes internal processes, interprets and applies organizational policies.
  • Provides input into policy and strategy.
  • Manages purchasing, inventory, equipment maintenance and other asset related functions.
  • Approves purchase/supply orders, expense accounts.
  • Manages the activities involved in the design, preparation, delivery and needs assessment of safety training and development programs for assigned department(s).
  • Develops, interprets organizational policies and recommend exceptions.
  • Must be on-call to respond after hours nights and weekends.

Decision Making

May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines. Applies organizational policies.

Leadership Provided

Has formal managerial authority over work group (typically at least 3-4 employees) to include discipline, performance management, scheduling/attendance, training, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of safety, occupational health and safety training methods, tools and best practices. Knowledge of occupational health and safety and worker's compensation laws. Knowledge of department jobs, work environment and equipment required and used, department policies and procedures. Strong knowledge of testing methods. Strong verbal, written and presentation skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong Microsoft Office skills. Skilled in using A/V equipment. Ability to design, develop and deliver course material in a creative and interesting manner. Ability to use interactive technology in instructional design of training courses. Ability to interpret and apply regulations and procedures. Ability to use A/V aids in presentations. Ability to communicate with all levels of employees. Minimum Qualifications
