General Description and Classification
The City of Atlanta, Department of Watershed is committed to implementing innovative solutions to stormwater challenges within our watersheds. Encompassing 132 square miles and 10 different watersheds, our sustainable stormwater management approach integrates planning and mitigation of the adverse impacts of flooding, while leveraging partnerships to protect, restore and enhance our watersheds. The Landscape Architect position within our team will perform a variety of landscape architectural work in the study, conceptualization, design, drawing preparation, and construction observation of green infrastructure, stream restoration, and watershed improvement projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Works under general supervision. Prepares or supervises preparation of plans and specifications such as green infrastructure plans & details, streambank restoration plans & details; planting plans & details, Stormwater drainage/amenity plans & details; Grading & stormwater infrastructure plans & details, Structural details and architectural feature details. Contract creation & management for green infrastructure, landscape and landscape maintenance projects; Observes and supervises in-field contractor construction; Supervises lower-level employees and contractors; Confers with industry professionals, suppliers, salesmen, and others in the coordination of plans, acquisition of materials and/or the estimation of construction costs. Creates & reviews Tree Protection/Replacement plans for compliance with the Tree Protection Ordinance. Creates & reviews Stream Buffer Encroachment plans for compliance with the Stream Buffer Ordinances; Creates & reviews Site disturbance plans for compliance with the Site Disturbance Ordinances; Assists in public relations/information, project representation and public meeting participation during publicity phases of DWM projects; Fields phone calls, general communication and works with the general public about project scope, tree impacts, stream buffer encroachments, and/or construction activity related communication.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of landscape architecture design process, general stormwater design, general landscape construction methodologies and equipment: native plant material, mowers, excavators, hand tools, etc.; principles, procedures, and methods of arboriculture. Skill in the use of computers and applicable standard office as well as architectural software (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc). Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts in a professional manner; to determine procedures or equipment needed to accomplish tasks.
