Job Title: Scientist, Avionics Systems Engineering - Military Displays Job Code: 13002 Job Location: Alpharetta, GA Job Description: L3Harris' Military Displays Division, based in Alpharetta, GA, is actively seeking a highly motivated Avionics Development Systems Engineer with a deep passion for advancing avionics technology. As a Systems Engineer, you will join a dynamic team tasked with pioneering state-of-the-art systems for Military and Commercial aerospace platforms. The Scientist, Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, integration, and manufacturing of various airborne and ground products. This position involves working on initial product concepts and collaborating closely with customers to develop formal specifications and requirements. After developing requirements, the candidate will perform integration and testing to ensure compliance with specified standards and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership across all phases of the system development lifecycle, encompassing requirements capture, system design, hardware and software integration, system validation, and verification.
Collaborate with internal and external customers to decompose customer specifications and system-level requirements into detailed hardware and software specifications.
Document operational scenarios, define system interfaces, and articulate sub-systems and component requirements, while generating criteria for requirement validation and verification.
Develop systems-level documents and certification artifacts, including planning documents, verification and validation summaries, and compliance/deviation reports.
Apply systems engineering principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, and tools ensuring compliance with specifications across varied operating conditions.
Generate Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM), Design Verification Testing (DVT), Interface Definition Documents (IDD), Interface Control Drawings (ICD), and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP).
Utilize engineering tools such as DOORS, JAMA, etc., for requirements capture and management.
Provide direct support to internal and external customers throughout the product development lifecycle, collaborating closely with Senior Engineering and Program Management.
Plan Systems Engineering tasks for projects to achieve schedule, cost, and performance goals during the execution phase.
Participate in key reviews throughout the lifecycle, including peer reviews, preliminary and detailed design reviews, and test readiness reviews.
Ability to rapidly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of complex architectural systems
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required Physical Requirements (such as ability to lift up to 10 lbs.)
Up to 10% travel to customer sites, suppliers, and other L3Harris locations may be required

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
Experience in avionics or other aircraft system development
Experience collaborating with Engineering Leadership and Program Management in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, managing concurrent projects with overlapping deadlines.
Preferred Additional Skills: Skilled in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and proficient with tools like CAMEO Systems Modeler for the development of architectures and performing functional analysis.
Extensive experience in implementing and testing commercial and military communications protocols, including RS-422/232, DVI, ARINC-429, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-664, ARINC-818, and TTP.
Knowledgeable in optical characteristics of flight displays utilizing AMLCDs, OLEDs, and LEDs, with a foundational understanding of radiometry, photometry, and color sciences.
Experience in developing Avionics designs within regulatory frameworks such as ARP4754A, ARP4761A, and MIL-STD-882.
Familiarity with the objectives and requirements of DO-254, DO-178B/C, and DO-160 processes.
Previous experience providing technical design content for proposal development and contributing to proposal responses.
High-level understanding of manufacturing build, testing, quality assurance, and customer acceptance review processes.
Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
