Description:

Performs a wide range of services to diagnose and repair District fleet units at the West Palm Beach Field Station including cars, trucks, diesel engines, and small and heavy equipment. May give technical guidance and assistance.

This position requires participation in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or a Pump Station Operator (PSO) at any time during your employment. As a non-pump station employee, you will receive training so that you can provide assistance to the pump station crews during any pumping operations needed whether during normal work shifts, extended day or evening shifts, weekends, or holidays, etc. Both the PSA and PSO positions require intense training and mastery of controls and operations of each pump station.

This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Work hours are Monday - Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Employment Guidelines
(May be filled as Fleet Technician or Fleet Mechanic)

Fleet Technician : High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of experience in servicing, diagnosing and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

The hiring range for this position is $54,620.80 to $63,086.40 (based on education and years of relevant work experience).

Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, the District will provide 3 months from date of hire to obtain CDL. District is willing to pay cost of CDL training program.

Fleet Mechanic : High School Diploma or GED and 2 + years of experience in servicing, diagnosing and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. Or specialized training certifications or degrees in automotive and construction equipment technologies. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

The hiring range for this position is $49,400.00 to $57,241.60 (based on education and years of relevant work experience).

Valid Florida Driver's License (Class E). Must obtain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission within two years from date of hire. District is willing to pay cost of CDL training program.

Certifications
Fleet Technician : Must maintain a total of four (4) valid ASE certifications between the three specialties listed below.

Fleet Mechanic : Will have 2 years from date of hire to obtain ASE certifications between the three specialties listed below.

Automotive : Engine repair, automatic transmission/ transaxle, manual drive train and axle, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, engine performance.

Medium/Heavy Truck : Gasoline engine, diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, preventative maintenance inspection.

Auto Maintenance & Light Repair: Ability to obtain and maintain certification in overhead crane, forklift operations (reevaluation every year), First Aid/CPR/AED (recertification every two years).

Ability to obtain pump station assistant status within 6 months from date of hire and/or placement in job and/or ability to obtain pump station operator status within 12 months from date of hire and/or placement in job.
