JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for leading, training, and mentoring the project crew in heavy commercial and industrial renovations, particularly focusing on equipment retrofits. The foreman will prioritize and delegate responsibilities, communicate effectively with tradespeople on-site, and manage project schedules to ensure timely and efficient project completion. This role requires hands-on involvement with mechanical equipment installations and renovations.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the Lead Technical Resource on assigned retrofit and renovation projects, with a focus on mechanical equipment.
Leads a team of 5-7 crew members, providing guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Reports on job status, performance metrics, and project updates to management.
Controls job costs by managing resources effectively and maintaining budget compliance.
Develops and maintains productive relationships with peers, customers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
Ensures adherence to safety protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all team members.
Enforces compliance with installation policies and procedures, including project tracking and attendance.
May oversee third-party resources and coordinate subcontractor activities as necessary.
Directs and oversees the work of apprentices and journeymen assigned to specific projects.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in heavy commercial and industrial renovation work, with a focus on equipment retrofits.
Rigging and crane signaling experience required.
Comprehensive understanding of mechanical equipment, including but not limited to:
Chillers (air and water cooled)
Air Handling Units (AHUs) - built-up, chilled water rooftop units (CHW RTUs), dismantling and rebuilding AHUs
Cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, buffer tanks
Chilled water (CHW) and cooling water (CW) pipe systems and components
Pipefitting and measuring pipe for orders
Experience in material ordering and subcontractor coordination.
Some travel will be required based on project needs.
Proven ability to manage project scheduling effectively.
High school diploma, GED, or completion of a trade program or technical school. A college degree is a plus.
Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Strong knowledge of construction principles and practices, including labor efficiency.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong judgment in work assignments and project management.
Clear communication skills for giving instructions and guidance to team members.
Proven ability to maintain project labor hours within acceptable limits and request change orders as needed.
Commitment to safe work practices and compliance with all safety policies.
Ability to understand and follow company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
Proficiency in typical business tools including email, Word, Excel, work order/dispatch software, and ERP software.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to delegate assignments and follow through for successful outcomes.
