Job description

Electronic Security Systems Technician / Administrator Primary Responsibilities: Install, upgrade, maintain, troubleshoot issues, research costs, and provide estimates for approval for the USSOCOM Security Management System (SMS). This includes analyzing operational trends, recommending improvements, troubleshooting, and repairing issues with all system components including software, hardware, balanced magnetic switches (BMS), maglocks, card readers, cameras, motion sensors, barricades, turnstiles, databases, video analytics, Windows-based servers and desktops, and any other devices or applications used as part of the SMS. The on-site technician reports all system discrepancies/violations to the USSOCOM Security Management Office (SMO). Cyber Security Tasking. The technician will assist the SMO's PHYSEC Branch with ensuring systems are protected and maintained in accordance to DoD cybersecurity instructions and policies that apply to the SMS and all system components. The Technician will assist with providing IT support for the systems deployed, which could include but are not limited to deploying security updates and patches, troubleshooting IT hardware, software, and equipment issues with technical support resources, cleaning and maintaining ID badge printers, and monitoring the overall health of the systems in operation. Routine Testing. The Technician will also assist the SMO's PHYSEC Branch in annual testing of SMS components. The role of the technician is to ensure all devices are functioning properly. System Training. The on-site technician will assist the PHYSEC Branch in educating end users and security managers on the necessary basic operational procedures for the SMS and its components. All USSOCOM Security policies and operator level technical handouts will be provided by the PHYSEC Branch and will be promoted by the technician. Technician will also provide basic computer and IT operation technical content review with regards to operating the various SMS components, including electronic security systems and video platforms deployed. The on-site technician shall coordinate all work with the PHYSEC Branch and their support resources (e.g. other contractors, NAVSEA, or HW/SW manufacturer professional services or technical support teams) if further guidance is required to ensure that the SMS and supporting computer systems, networks, and equipment remain operational at all times. The on-site technician shall provide a monthly status report including but not limited to identification of issues worked/fixed, responses to emergency calls, and upgrades completed. Hours of Operation. The on-site technician shall be available to support 24hrs operations; however, normal work hours are from with an hour for lunch Monday thru Friday except Federal holidays, leave or as approved by the PHYSEC Branch Chief. Afterhours Response. The on-site technician shall be available to respond to after-hour SMS issues. The on-site technician shall initially attempt to trouble shoot the issue remotely (e.g. via phone) if possible. If it is determined by the PHYSEC Branch that on-site assistance is required, the technician will make every effort to be on-site within one hour. No more than 12 after hours response requests are expected per year. Required Professional Qualifications/Skills: Physically capable of installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer systems and electronic security system components including but not limited to video surveillance systems, access control devices, intrusion detection systems and barricades and programing control panels. 6 years of electronic security systems experience or equivalent Experience with low-voltage wiring, DC circuits, and PLCs Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and identifying and resolving false alarm conditions for electronic security systems including but not limited to motion detectors, access card readers, computer hardware and software, and other components. Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms and/or lifts to access equipment. Requires some outside work in extreme conditions Effective written and verbal communication skills Installation, support, maintenance, and rebuilding (i.e., fresh installation or re-installation of Microsoft Windows, applications, drivers, updates, etc.) of Windows-based servers and workstations. Ability to troubleshoot independently (or with manufacturer/vendor support resources if escalation is necessary) and provide technical support to end-users of Security Management Systems, including their Windows-based desktop computers. Required IT Proficiency: Basic IT proficiency is required, encompassing 'cradle to grave' deployment, support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and rebuilding (if necessary) of Windows-based servers and workstations. Candidates must be able to demonstrate competence in managing and troubleshooting IT-related aspects of the SMS, including hardware, software, and network components. Security Clearance: Must be a US citizen and possess an active adjudicated background investigation for access up to the TOP SECRET classification level and SCI eligible.
