POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ironworker General Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, lay-out, installation and alignment all in accordance with all: plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards and codes. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the journeyman and craftsmen under his/her supervision and motivate the crew to accomplish the work safely, productively, correctly, and efficiently. Work with or supervise other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens.)

Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures in a safe manner.

Understand, train, and implement 100% tie off/fall protection.

Basic understanding of the Mastec Safety Manual and policies, which include Fall protection, confined space, LOTO, and trenching.

Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by your crew on all equipment that is being used that day.

Follow the Mastec planning/JSA process for your crew. Review and provide feedback and training for the crew.

Support/perform additional safety practices: Supervisor audits, Craft observations, SLT meetings if requested.

Report ALL safety events and near misses to your supervisor.

Read, understand, and follow contract plans and specifications. Have a general understanding of the specific codes related to their discipline.

Inspect subordinate's/crews work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, explain and take any corrective action needed.

Ensure through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work is in compliance with the plans and specifications. Ensure that your crew is qualified to perform their work and have the appropriate certifications/license to perform their work.

Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.

Complete and submit complete quality paperwork and system signs offs.

Understand your assigned work and budgets and meet or beat the budgeted man-hours.

Conduct effective Gang box meetings, assign/align the performance goals for your crew and ensure they are "tools on" and working within 20-25 minutes of the start time. 10-15 minutes with the Foreman and 10 minutes in the work area filling out the JSA.

Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed in any of these areas.

Follow the Mastec planning process, for your current level; 1week look ahead, daily goal cards, JSAs and task planning.

Perform other job specific duties and have a basic understanding of the scheduling, material control and Productivity tracking systems.

Be able to perform all the essential functions of craft workers under his/her supervision.

Perform and lead task planning sessions to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned.

Listen to other employee's and supervisor's suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns and recommendations, evaluate each, then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.

Plan and communicate with the warehouse and Superintendent to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available for your upcoming work prior to the work being started.

Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and the related parts of the project. Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications, and schedules as they relate to that portion of the work assigned.

Conduct gang box meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans and schedules to the leadmen and crews. The meeting is to follow the completed Daily goal card for your crew.

Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision.

Understand and know applicable employee laws and follow Mastec HR policies.

Complete performance reviews of journeyman and craft workers.

Review JSAs daily and provide coaching to the assigned crew.

Be motivated and work productively and maintain a good attitude toward work, and internal and external personnel.

Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

Weekly preparation of the 1-week schedule, as communicated from the superintendents 3-week/6-week schedule.

Review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

NCCER Certification/License (preferred)

Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory role

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.

When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.

Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume

Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form

Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards

Other may duties may be assigned

Maintain in-depth relations with all members of their team and your supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.

May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.

Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.

This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.

Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).

Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.

May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.

Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.

Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.

Keep good balance and work at heights.

See well (either naturally or with correction).

Hear well (either naturally or with correction.)

Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
