Job description

White Sands Treatment Center is a leading provider of drug and alcohol rehabilitative services in Florida. We provide evidence-based treatment in a residential setting for adult men and women.

Position Purpose:

The Dietician is responsible for coordinating, planning, implementation, and documentation of quality meals and nutritional services to all patients at the facility in accordance and compliance with standards of State and Federal regulations; and accrediting agencies. He/she is a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, completes nutritional assessments when identified as indicated through admission nursing assessment and assists in the formulation of the Master Treatment Plan and Treatment Plan Reviews/Updates.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs nutrition assessments (within specified time frame) as requested by Program Nurse on patients whose nursing and/or physician assessment have revealed the need for nutritional assessment to identify patient needs, strengths and weaknesses.

2. Formulates nutritional plans based on patients identified needs.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of nutritional skills which assist the patient to reach a higher level of functioning.

4. Plans, implements, and provides nutritional therapy groups as scheduled.

5. Assists in the design of facility patient meal menus to assure compliance to nutritional standards.

6. Demonstrates ability to document in the patient record in an accurate, concise, clear, legible, and organized manner that reflects assessment, interventions and plans.

7. Provides Medical Director with requests for nutritional supplies and equipment as needed; promotes cost-containment by exercising care to prevent loss supplies.

8. Provides pertinent information patient information based on nutritional assessment and group interactions to assist in the development of the Master Treatment Plan and provides input for Treatment Plan Updates and Reviews.

9. Assists the patient(s) in developing measurable nutritional planing discharge goals and objectives

10. Complies with facility policies and procedures.

11. Participates in at least 75% of monthly provider meetings; responsible for obtaining information if not in attendance.

12. Participates in committees as directed by the Medical Director.

13. Responds and assists in emergency situations as needed in a manner appropriate to training an experience.

14. Approaches patients/families and visitors with a respectful, caring manner to convey a sense of concern and warmth.

15. Maintains confidentiality of patient information and records.

16. Communicates and problem solves via the chain of command.

17. Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner, sensitive to patient diversity.

18. Seeks constructive criticism and has the ability to evaluate suggestions objectively.

19. Works in collaboration with the Medical Director, physicians and all other staff members.

20. Reports to work as assigned.

21. Completes daily tasks as assigned.

22. Maintains acceptable overall attendance.

23. Promotes a favorable/positive work atmosphere.

24. Attends inservices and educational training as necessary.

25. Seeks out learning experiences and incorporates new knowledge into practice.

26. Maintains flexibility and adaptability to expected or unexpected changes in the work environment.

27. Reports personal symptoms of suspected illness or contagious diseases to the Program Nurse.

28. Utilizes hand-washing techniques and universal precaution at all times.

29. Reports incident occurrences in accordance to policy and procedure.

30. Maintains safety of the physical environment.

31. Oversees food temperature monitoring and record keeping.

32. Performs all other tasks as assigned.

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition.

Experience:

A minimum of 3-5 years work experience in a health care delivery system; preferably in a psychiatric care setting.
