JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse Women's & Children's Pavilion independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. This position provides direct nursing care to patients and assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities. Participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains the principles of confidentiality. Understands the legal/regulatory requirements related to the release of information. Able to use the information systems pertinent to the job.
Participates in data collection on unit.
Is able to locate and document medical and nursing patient care information in the electronic or paper medical record.
Able to pull up lab result using order entry computer.
Knows that the medical record is the principal source of patient related information. Is able to locate information in the medical record as evidenced by ability to perform complete chart audit.
Performs thorough admission assessment, utilizes appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy.
Prioritizes assessments/reassessments as patient condition warrants.
Assesses age-specific needs to patient population served.
Assesses barriers to learning and utilizes findings.
Identifies and prioritizes patient needs while evaluating data. Utilizes standards of nursing care to develop a sound functional plan of care.
Re-evaluates and revises patient needs daily and as needed.
Identifies standards of care common to patient population.
Implements nursing care in an organized and efficient manner. Evaluates effectiveness and interventions using critical thinking skills.
Delegates patient care to other team members within their scope of practice.
Diligently checks emergency equipment and supplies when assigned.
Delivers patient care and treatment using problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of medication dosages for patient population served. Administers medication safely and accurately, and utilizes available resources when questions arise.
Initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods.
Follows hospital policy regarding utilizing clinical pathways to evaluate plan of care and be aware of periodic changes in unit based and hospital policies. Attends patient care conferences.
Evaluates outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met.
Addresses unresolved needs in discharge planning.
Documents clearly and consistently in the EMR.
Positive and effective interaction skills through verbal and nonverbal communication with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians.
Provides feedback regarding problems and complaints, and offer constructive suggestions.
Uses chain-of-command for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Prioritizes patient treatment to best meet patient needs.
Completes care assignments efficiently.
Utilizes resources. Familiar with unit specific policy and procedures.
Progress reports are made to the Charge Nurse as indicated. Knows when to ask for assistance.
Reports to oncoming shift the care that should be provided and/or needs that have yet to be addressed.
Follows hospital standards related to INFOR and Kronos system.
Effective use of the supply system and efficiently dispenses patient care items. Along with effective use of equipment utilized in patient care for each specific specialty area as required.
Actively assists and support departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expense are equal to or less than approved budget.
Accepts responsibility for own learning needs. Attends courses and in-services offered. Maintains clinical skills specifically required on unit. Maintains knowledge of current policies.
Utilizes Security Systems for infant and pediatric safety.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association for all areas including but not limited to the requirements as listed for area below.
Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows

o Utilizes powerchart tracking shell for patient location, census information and status 'chalkboard'.
o Knows common obstetrical/neonatal nursing diagnoses, collaborates with appropriate disciplines, and plans effective treatment and interventions.
o NRP certification required within 90 days of hire and maintains.
o STABLE certification required within 1yr of hire and maintains
o Attains basic cardiology certification within 60 days of hire and updates annually (NICU only).
o Attains moderate sedation education within 6mos of hire and updates annually (NICU only).
MOM/BABY
o Utilizes powerchart tracking shell for patient location, census information and status 'chalkboard'.
o Knows common obstetrical/neonatal nursing diagnoses, collaborates with appropriate disciplines, and plans effective treatment and interventions.
o NRP certification required within 90 days of hire and maintains.
o STABLE certification required within 1yr of hire.
o Attains basic cardiology certification within 60 days of hire and updates annually (NICU only).
o Attains moderate sedation education within 6mos of hire and updates annually (NICU only).
LABOR AND DELIVERY
o Utilizes fetal link for fetal monitoring.
o Knows common obstetrical and neonatal nursing diagnoses, collaborates with appropriate disciplines, and plans effective treatment and interventions.
o Demonstrates competence in all areas of fetal heart monitoring, including not but limited to, application, patient education, internal scalp electrode placement, assisting with placement of intrauterine pressure catheter, antenatal testing, interpretation and appropriate interventions.
o Demonstrates safe and effective use of Tocolytic agents.
o Ability to circulate cesarean section and GYN cases.
o Ability to recover cesarean sections and GYN cases.
o NRP certification required within 90 days of hire and maintains.
o STABLE certification required within 1yr of hire.
o Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 6mos of hire and maintains.
o Attains basic cardiology certification within 60 days of hire and updates annually.
o Attends Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course within 6mos of hire and maintains fetal monitoring update every 2yrs.
PEDIATRICS
o Utilizes powerchart tracking shell for patient location, census information and status 'chalkboard'.
o Knows common pediatric nursing diagnoses, collaborates with appropriate disciplines, and plans effective treatment and interventions.
o Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 6mos of hire and maintains.
o Attains moderate sedation education within 6mos of hire and updates annually.
o Attains basic cardiology certification within 60 days of hire and updates annually.
