    JOB SUMMARY

    The Nurse Director is responsible 24 hours, 7 days a week for the operations and function of their assigned nursing unit/units. The Director is accountable for the management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery; the management of human, fiscal, and other resources; the development of personnel; compliance with regulatory and professional standards , strategic planning, and the fostering of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within the areas of responsibility and the hospital as a whole. The Director serves as a patient advocate and for assuring that all patient needs including physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional are met.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned.

    Manages the overall operations in accordance with hospital administered policies, standards of nursing practices, and governmental regulations, providing the highest level of care for all patients.

    Promotes patient/family focused care as the highest priority and strives to meet customer expectations for quality and satisfaction.

    Provides administrative and financial accountability for planning, directing, staffing, coordinating, and controlling functions, and activities, delegating authority as necessary. Develops and aligns goals with the organization's strategic plans. Champions ideas that add value to the organization.

    Manages and meets financial performance targets including revenue performance and controls spending of departmental budget. Prepares and monitors budget in accordance with the anticipated needs of organization. Uses budget and financial tools to measure performance. Oversees efficient staffing daily basis.

    Understands regulatory compliance issues which affect the system and department, including OSHA, DCF, TJC, EEOC, CDC, ACHA, etc. and ensures that departments and personnel maintain compliance at all times.

    Oversees all unit/area activities to ensure operations are safe, efficient, and effective for both patient/families and customers.

    Oversees various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.

    Understands and accepts the continual nature of change associated with the healthcare environment and the importance of remaining flexible in order to meet changing demands and assist staff to understand change.

    Sets and maintains the highest levels of service to patients, family members, visitors, physicians, and other hospital departments. Promptly investigates and appropriately responds to patient, visitor, and physician complaints.

    Utilizes performance management expertise to facilitate the achievement of department goals. Holds staff accountable for adherence to department and hospital policies and procedures.

    Initiates and implements policies and procedures to ensure that standards of care and service are clearly understood and followed by all staff members.

    Actively supports and promotes a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial and utilizes current trends and data in professional practice (clinical and administrative). Openly supports and consistently communicates the mission of the Nursing Department and the organization. Serve as the collective voice for unit(s) staff to communicate with administration. Serve as the staff and patient advocate to ensure optimal patient care.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.

    Master's Degree preferred.

    Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience preferred.

    Minimum of 3-5 years of RN experience required.

    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

    Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.

    Other certifications/qualifications may be required based on the specific unit or specialty.

    Analytical, motivational, and strategic planning skills required.

    Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
