JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice nurse who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions for patients of the NCH Physician Group. The APP works in collaboration with the APPs, management team, peers, and staff to advance nursing and promote the development of an evidence-based professional practice environment. Further, the APP works under the approved and agreed protocols signed by the supervising NCH Physician Group physician. The APP works to continually improve clinical outcomes, facilitate throughput, and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication with Administrative/Clinical Staff: The APP is expected to develop an active communication strategy with the medical and other staff, to keep them informed about requirements regarding the conduct of their work. In so doing, the APP will work under the approved and agreed protocol signed by their supervising NCH Physician Group physician who will oversee all aspects of patient care delivered by the APP.
Organizational and Medical Ethics: The APP is responsible for defining, focusing, and resolving problems in collaboration with the APP's assigned physician as well as other members of the clinical and administrative staff.
Strategic Planning: The APP, in conjunction with the Senior Leadership of the NCH Physician Group is responsible for participating in the development of their practice's strategic plan, including long and short-term goals and objectives. The strategic plan will be evaluated annually, and the results reported to the NCH Physician Group's Board of Directors through the Chief Medical Officer.
Performance Improvement: The APP is responsible for following the performance evaluation program created by the Quality of Care Committee.
APP Recruitment: The APP is responsible for facilitating the recruitment of high-quality APPs and other professional personnel for the NCH Physician Group.
Contracting: The APP is responsible for delivering medical care in a manner that is consistent with the terms of managed care and insurance contracts into which NCH Physician Group enters.
Litigation: The APP is responsible for assisting the NCH Physician Group administrative team prepare for and respond to all litigation in which it is involved.
Clinical Responsibilities: The APP is responsible for providing leadership for all the NCH Physician Group's patient care activities. These responsibilities include the following specific elements.
Philosophy of Care: The APP is responsible for exemplifying in personal and professional conduct, the clinical and administrative tone that emanates for the philosophy of care and thus sets the tone for all the professional and administrative staff.
Performance Improvement: The APP is responsible for assuring that the NCH Physician Group's Medical Services are run in such a manner that the integrity and quality of the clinical programs are protected, fostered and improved. She/he shall participate fully in NCHHG programs of performance improvement with the goal being to strive for clinical excellence and improved patient outcomes. This work entails ensuring that NCH Physician Group's Medical Services meet all standards required for necessary accreditation and appropriate regulatory reviews, and document assessments, reviews, and other operations and activities necessary to assure the highest quality of clinical operations.
Support of Clinical Operations
a) Fostering high quality and efficient clinical operations within NCH Physician Group.
b) Participates in the supervision of medical support staff (e.g. LPN and Medical Assistant) who works in support of the APP's practice.
c) Participates in the design, development and implementation of clinical programs fashioned to provide clinical care and activities related to medical treatment of patients in an efficient, effective, economic, and feasible manner.
d) Participates in the oversight of medical services and clinical procedures to ensure their appropriateness, quality and integration as a part of the NCH Physician Group's clinical program.
e) Participates in activities and programs designed to ensure effective, sufficient, and efficient clinical staffing.
f) Participates in committee or work group activities as reasonably requested by supervising physician Chief Medical Officer
g) Works to ensure the effective protection and implementation of the patients' bill of rights.
h) Provides direct patient care in those instances where it is necessary for the patient's well-being.
i) Serves as liaison to the medical staff to ensure matters of medical importance are conveyed to the Board of Directors.
Problem Solving: The APP is responsible for resolving immediate clinical problems which arise affecting patient care.
Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and programs to identify the needs of the clinical and administrative staff to a) correct knowledge or skill deficits, b) to accomplish the continued professional development of the clinical and administrative staff.
Represent NCH Physician Group in the community through interviews, lectures, organized consultation, and other appropriate activities.
Strategic Planning: It is the APP's responsibility to be actively involved in developing long-range strategies to ensure the NCH Physician Group's future clinical and economic success. This involves both short-term and long-term planning. The responsibility is both an active one in generating ideas that will ensure NCH Physician Group's future viability as well as a protective one in identifying problematic issues that may arise from other proposals.
Marketing Plan: The APP should be actively involved in the development and implementation of an on-going marketing plan. The APP should provide advice guidance regarding the appropriateness and effectiveness of this plan and be willing to play an active role in this plan through community lectures, TV or radio appearances and such other public presentations that appropriately support this work.
Clinical Marketing: The APP is responsible for helping to develop and implement a program of clinical marketing providing for the NCH Physician Group's participation in a variety of public health efforts geared toward educating the community regarding the nature of the medical services removing destructive barriers to care, assisting in the primary prevention of mental illness, and facilitating the appropriate referral of affected individuals to the most appropriate level of care and type of service.
Managed Care
a) Enhance administrative and medical staff awareness, knowledge, and skill to operate collaboratively within a managed care environment.
b) Participate as needed in managed care negotiations.
c) Participate and assist NCH Physician Group in responding to appeals, denials, and other key communications with third party payers.
d) Remain personally educated and knowledgeable regarding relevant development in the contemporary management of care.
e) It is the APP's responsibility to carry out all other duties and responsibilities in order to meet the clinical and administrative needs necessary to achieve NCH Physician Group's goals and objectives.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Master's Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited school of nursing and have completed advanced practice or nurse practitioner program.
Minimum of experience in clinical with outstanding teaching skills and the ability to facilitate organizational change.
Must have Board Certification in area of specialty, board eligible candidates will be considered with commitment to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. New Graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider in the State of Florida.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 3 months of hire.
Completes all NCH yearly competencies within the allotted timeframe.
Maintains professional licensing requirements.
Completion of all continuing education requirements needed to practice as an Advanced Practice Provider.
Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
