Team Submarine's Submarine Program Offices are responsible for: The acquisition of the COLUMBIA Class SSBN and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) of the COLUMBIA Class. The program is a major defense acquisition program and is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). The acquisition of New Construction Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarines (SSN(X . The program is a major defense acquisition program with a total life cycle cost of approximately $336B. Additionally, successful improvement of the Class' capabilities is of significant political importance with Congress and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). The NAVSEA 05Z5 Directorate is responsible for the design and development of the COLUMBIA class Integrated Power System that provides power distribution and propulsion for the future ballistic missile submarine. They work directly with the shipbuilder for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating all resources required for the design, construction, and Test and Evaluation (T&E) of the future submarine's power system. They are also responsible for all of the Turbine Generators for generating electricity for all submarine and CVNs. The future Ballistic Missile Submarine is the nation's top defense priority as the only survivable leg of the nuclear triad. Len Bunch ( ) leads this team as a Navy veteran. The team has been recognized by the Navy and the industry for their outstanding contributions to the contract and program. In this position you will: Develop plans and specifications, perform analysis, and provide reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of Turbine Generators for the Columbia Class and Virginia Class submarines. Be technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing investigation or inspections of the Turbine Generators at the Manufacturer or the Test Facility, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects. Review and critique all proposed changes to existing engineering designs. Assure that all design specifications conform to the latest MILSPEC requirements as well as the initial design requirements. Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices. Assist in troubleshooting operational issues as they relate to the overall system design. Qualifications To be successful in the role, you must have: REQUIRED - Have a current or active Secret clearance which is REQUIRED for consideration. REQUIRED - Have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical (preferred), Electrical, Computer, or other engineering degree or related field (Physics, for example). 5-7 years related engineering experience. Experience in all facets of the design of turbine generators 10% travel required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with technical writing and technical review Be articulate in both oral and written formats. Experience providing engineering and technical support for large rotating equipment. Experience working in a Submarine Power Plant or Commercial Power Plant. Knowledge of vibration, balancing and alignment techniques of rotating equipment. Experience in turbine/generator vibration analysis, turbine supervisory instrumentation, and/or balancing experience. Experience troubleshooting Steam Turbines and associated equipment. Familiar with Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis. Familiar with MS Suite software. Provide rigorous, responsive, technical acumen while retaining a collaborative and amiable approach. Field service engineering experience is a plus.
