Speechwriter
Location(s): Washington, D.C.
Clearance Required: Secret
Years of Experience: 5+, or 10+ if no degree
Degree: B.S/B.A. in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or similar discipline
FT/PT: Full Time Looking for motivated candidates with five or more years of experience in writing, editing, public relations, speechwriting, and communication to support a large acquisition command at the Washington Navy Yard. This position requires the candidate to have a DOD Secret level security clearance. The speechwriter will have these required qualifications:
- BA in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or similar discipline and five years of progressive communications and speechwriting experience. The degree requirement may be waived if the candidate demonstrates 10 years' experience in a communications or speechwriter position.
- Proficiency in MS Word/PowerPoint/Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of grammar, writing, editing and proofreading.
- Secret security clearance.
- Candidate will be required to simplify and clarify complex technical, legal, legislative, regulatory and statistical information into simple language to craft compelling speeches and presentations for a 3-star admiral. The ideal candidate will have the following skills: - Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
- Experience in management communications, planning and implementing of strategic communications strategies, crisis communications, stakeholder relationship management and briefing development.
- Familiarity with the Navy mission, organization and terminology.
