Job description

LTS is seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to provide server administration and management for virtual and physical servers. The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for building, documenting, operating, maintaining, and sustaining enterprise, regional, and local physical and virtual servers supporting mission and business applications and systems, as well as the underlying shared application and infrastructure services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in administering systems for National Security Systems (NSS). This Program within the Department of Commerce is designed to manage and reduce cybersecurity risks of their customers and ensuring the convergence of IT security and business objectives by integrating cybersecurity into system development lifecycles and comply with the Federal Government's Risk Management Framework (RMF). The work will be performed on-site at the DOC located at 1401 Constitution Ave, NW. Responsibilities:
Provide system administration subject matter expertise to NSS(s).
Install, configure, and maintain servers and computer systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Administer and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure for security, efficiency, and availability.
Install, configure, test, and maintain the integrity of operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
Perform system startup, shutdown, diagnostics, file management, user and group setups, and configure login scripts.
Perform system maintenance tasks, such as system backups, recovery, and file management to ensure data protection.
Administer data and file storage, including provisioning and monitoring backups and restorations.
Ensure the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability and reliability.
Plan for and respond to service outages, troubleshoot issues, and manage system upgrades to minimize downtime.
Monitor and maintain software licensing and maintenance agreements to ensure compliance.
Monitor system configuration for data integrity and address any potential issues.
Perform security audits, report findings, and take corrective action to ensure system security.
Build servers using standard build guidelines, apply security hardening, and work with Information Assurance to address findings from IT security scans.
Monitor, secure, and evaluate system patches/updates, and install necessary updates for all supported systems.
Provide direct support for network hardware and operating systems, monitor system utilization, and address operational problems.
Troubleshoot network issues at both the physical and logical levels, including working with network measurement hardware, software, and communication protocols.
Coordinate and perform changes and upgrades to network hardware, operating systems, and connected devices, including installation and testing.
Support the installation, optimization, integration, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and security of IT systems to meet business needs.
Assist with the implementation plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to system implementation and operation.
Manage user accounts, groups, and permissions on classified systems.
Perform Database Administrator duties, ensuring the performance and integrity of the databases.
Provide service desk support and IT operational assistance to customers as needed.
Collaborate with Senior Systems Engineer on research and analysis of new technologies to improve existing systems.
Participate in the planning, design, technical review, and implementation of new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) hardware and network operating systems.
Manage enterprise-class hardware (IBM, Dell, Cisco, servers, database libraries, Ethernet/FC switches, and storage arrays).
Administer the Microsoft Exchange environment, Active Directory, document management systems, and associated subsystems.
Coordinate engineering reviews and participate in technical meetings with stakeholders, users, and development contractors.
Provide technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff.
Provide continuous monitoring of scanning results for all managed assets.
Generate asset inventory reports and provide results for all managed assets/systems in the agreed-upon format.
Produce additional reports, documentation, or materials related to the managed assets/systems, as required.
Maintain network infrastructure standards and ensure compliance with security audit and logging requirements for classified systems. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or eight (8) years of System Administration experience.
Must possess one of the following certifications: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 Foundation certification must be completed within 6 months.
Active Top Secret / SCI eligible clearance.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Desired Skills:
Experience working within the U.S. Department of Commerce or similar federal agencies.
Experience with IT tools such as BigFix, VMWARE, ServiceNow, and Tenable Nessus. LTS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
