Responsibilities Be part of our exciting team supporting a robust, world-wide communications network, providing office automation packages; document and information management tools; and collaboration, voice, and video tools in a secure, flexible, distributed architecture supporting a classified DoD IT system deployed worldwide. Seeking a Senior Solaris Engineer to lead and guide all design and upgrade efforts encompassing the Solaris server environments across a large-scale enterprise Information Technology (IT) program. Using a holistic approach, designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle.
Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.
Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.
Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Designs interfaces and brings system elements together, so they work as a whole.
Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.
Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower-level detailed requirements.
Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation.
Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.
Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.
Responsible for insuring compliance with all regulations, optimizing system performance, and supporting future planning of Solaris-based systems
Design, build, and integrate Operating System (OS) baselines with security hardened configuration for Solaris servers; design ongoing maintenance practices and procedures for OS patching and updates
Package and integrate 3rd party software with security hardened configuration; and design ongoing maintenance practices and procedures for software patching and updatesQualifications Bachelor's Degree or higher with 12+ years of experience; additional 4+ years in lieu of degree
Minimum of 10+ years of Unix operating system experience
Minimum of 8+ years Linux operating system experience including: system internals; file system structures, design, and performance tuning at an enterprise level; backup; recovery; testing methodologies; storage; data replication; DISA system hardening guidelines
Proven experience insuring compliance with all regulations, optimizing system performance, and supporting future planning
General knowledge of ITIL and the use of MS Project
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) credentials as an Oracle Solaris System Administrator
Current ITIL Foundations certification

Target Salary Range $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
