Job description
Financial Specialist This position requires the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance to be considered. The Financial Specialist provides expertise in tracking and managing an organization's finances, including data entry, financial statement preparation, transaction recording, and support for various accounting efforts. This role requires strong financial skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet high standards for quality. The specialist will assist in tracking and auditing fiscal grant funds for the UC2 program and ensure proper financial management and reporting. This role supports the National Defense University. Compensation & Benefits: Estimated Starting Salary Range for Financial Specialist: Starting at $110,000 Pay commensurate with experience. Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice. Financial Specialist Responsibilities Include: Enter financial data into databases, prepare financial statements, and record transactions accurately. Track financial transactions and expenses against the budget, ensuring accurate records of commitments, obligations, and available funds. Support the tracking and auditing of fiscal grant funds for the UC2 program. Monitor document status, commitments, obligations, disbursements, and expensed items on a monthly or agency-determined basis. At the start of each fiscal year, gather and compile data for FY purchases and formulate the Execution Plan for Government approval. Ensure accurate, timely guidance to assist the UC2 lead in achieving program success. Submit government-directed purchases into automated financial systems such as the Defense Agencies Initiative (DAI) and the Defense Travel System (DTS). Track purchases and research discrepancies or issues using these systems. Conduct budget analysis, trend analysis, and monitor program execution. Provide insights and updates to the government, ensuring expenditures are in line with regulatory guidelines (fiscal law). Provide accurate and thorough financial support and analysis in accordance with NDU policies. Monitor and document financial trends, commitments, and obligations to ensure maximum economy and efficiency in budget execution. Draft grant application narratives, budgets, and requests for White Papers. Collaborate with government staff, finance teams, and the UC2 Program Director to finalize submissions. Maintain accurate and organized documentation for easy access and retrieval of the current fiscal picture. Ensure all records are properly filed electronically and/or manually. Required Experience, Education, Skills, and Abilities: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of previous experience in a financial or accounting role, especially within government or grant-funded programs. Experience with budget tracking, financial reporting, and auditing grant funds or program expenditures. Skills and Abilities: Strong financial management and analytical abilities. Proficiency in automated financial systems such as DAI (Defense Agencies Initiative) and DTS (Defense Travel System) Familiarity with federal budget processes and regulatory financial guidelines. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication skills for providing clear financial guidance to program leads. Other Requirements: Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance. Must pass pre-employment qualifications for Cherokee Federal.
