Job description
SMX is seeking a Fiber Optic and Network Cabling Technician IV to apply engineering experience, knowledge, and principles to install, troubleshoot, maintain, document, and provide solutions for various types of information technology infrastructure cabling and networks, as well as electrical, electronic, avionics, and/or mechanical equipment and other related devices to support Tactical and Remote Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Collaboration, and Intelligence (C5I) Edge Systems (TARCES) customer mission sets.to install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repairs cable infrastructure including copper and/or fiber cable for data networks, audio/visual and video- teleconferencing systems, and electronic security systems. The Integration Technician may also assist with the installation of digital switching equipment, racks and miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion detection, access control, computer data circuits and related other information technology systems. This position requires a DoD secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Proficient in reading blueprints/schematics, developing/updating system/facility drawings in accordance with unified facility criteria regulations for Building, Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI), and other related industry standards (ie: Unified Facilities Criteria) and/or local guidance as required Install, troubleshoot, test, maintain, and provide updated diagrams/logical topologies for PoE and analog video management systems, network communication enclaves, splicing and terminating fiber optic/copper cabling, etc Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations in secure/non-secure facility spaces Installs Protected Distribution Systems (PDS) and updates facility drawings Light construction finishing tasks as required for project success Use OTDR, power meter, optical fault locator, copper cable/fiber optic splicers, and other applicable test equipment as required for the assigned job Performs quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians Often assigned as on-site team lead and reports directly to Integration Team Project Manager Responsible for maintaining safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements Attends project meetings with customer and SMX leadership to provide daily, weekly, and monthly project status updates as required Perform site surveys for rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates and minimum equipment list (MEL) to assigned PM and/or PMO staff Ability to travel up to 75% of the time both CONUS and OCONUS Required Skills & Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required Clearance: Secret with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI 5 to 7 years of hands-on in an engineering field applicable to the job description and essential duties listed above Experience bending and installing PDS pipes in accordance with industry standards Demonstrated knowledge/experience working with: National Electric Code (NEC) for low-voltage electricity BICSI standards Audio/Visual and Video teleconferencing (VTC) Lenel, Bosch, Hirsch/Identiv, Milestone Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing instruments or equipment At least one current industry certification: BICSI, Lenel, Bosch, Hirsch/Identiv, Milestone, Audio Visual Technologist, Certified Technology Specialist, etc At least one current job-safety certification: OSHA-10, OSHA-30, OSHA Ladder Safety, OSHA Fall Protection, CPR, Confined Spaces, etc Ability to safely lift 50 lbs Ability to climb ladders, use scaffolding/scissor lifts, and climb radio towers without fear of heights Valid US Passport Desired Skills & Experience Current active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility Current BICSI Installer-2, Optical Fiber (INSTF), fiber or copper, OSHA10, confined spaces safety certification(s), American Red Cross CPR/AED certified, and/or other industry manufacturer certifications Experience working with DoD organizations DoD8570/DoD8140 IAT II certification (ie: Sec+, etc) A/V Installations Certification Electronic Security System Certification (Lenel, AMAG, or DMP) Experience finishing drywall and other light construction tasks necessary to complete installations of electronics equipment Application Deadline: November 18, 2024 The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
