Marine Terminal Superintendent Job Summary

We are seeking a Marine Terminal Superintendent to be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the terminal, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant handling of bulk, breakbulk, and other cargo types. This role involves coordinating terminal activities, managing operational staff, optimizing processes, and maintaining high standards of safety and customer service. The Marine Terminal Superintendent will work closely with various departments to drive operational efficiency and support the company's commitment to service excellence.

Marine Terminal Superintendent Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of terminal operations, including vessel loading and unloading, cargo handling, storage, and logistics.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational regulations, including OSHA, Coast Guard, and other relevant standards.
  • Develop and implement operational plans and schedules to meet customer requirements and optimize terminal performance.
  • Supervise and manage terminal staff, including operations supervisors, equipment operators, and labor teams, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate with vessel agents, stevedores, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient turnaround of vessels and cargo.
  • Monitor and maintain terminal equipment, ensuring proper use, routine maintenance, and timely repairs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the terminal facilities to identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and manage operational budgets, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, including cargo movements, equipment usage, and personnel activities.
  • Respond to operational issues, emergencies, or incidents, taking prompt action to resolve problems and minimize impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance terminal operations, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and customer service excellence within the terminal operations team.

Marine Terminal Superintendent Position Requirements

  • Experience handling and supervising associates on multiple types of cargo, especially breakbulk
  • Understands specialized rigging and cargo handling gear
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Able to motivate and build morale within the group
  • Ability to supervise, train and hold associates accountable for performance and results
  • Warehouse and stevedoring experience
