DESCRIPTION

Seeking an experienced Lab Systems/Automation professional to join the eMolecules team in Newark, Delaware! The Lab Systems and Automation Manager role will provide leadership in our Liquid Handling Department by analyzing business processes and implementing operational excellence to drive growth and help scale our business. This role will oversee daily liquid handling operations, develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safety of laboratory personnel and fulfillment of client orders. This role also coordinates with other departments within the facility to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory.

In addition to the evaluating new instrumentation and a focus on improving equipment uptime, this role will be responsible for partnering broadly to identify, implement, and support continuous improvement efforts to our automated and non-automated workflows to increase the efficiency of our laboratory processes. This is a "hand's on" role that requires experience in programming automated and robotic equipment.

  • Build, motivate, and develop a team of laboratory technicians and automation specialists in support of a high-throughput laboratory operation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and maintain documentation including SOPs, work instructions, calibration/maintenance, and training for instrumentation and equipment in a laboratory environment.
  • Ensure workflows are in compliance with SLAs while supporting and acting as the equipment representative in quality audits
  • Identify, evaluate ROI, develop, and deploy continuous improvements with a focus on improving uptime and efficiency
  • Assures that technical solutions are adequate to business needs
  • Defines responsibilities and allocates resources to the different projects taking into account the departmental priorities.
  • Performs technology watch in the field of automated systems or software development
  • Roll out the appropriate tools to manage data acquired by the equipment and ensure backup
  • Develops a plan to minimize downtime of essential instruments and critical equipment to ensure the laboratories remain productive and run smoothly
  • Identifies, evaluates and make recommendations about state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation and liquid-handling equipment that will have high-impact on all stages of assay development and execution (from sample, reagent and plate handling to data acquisition and management)
  • Engages with colleagues to evaluate the impact of implemented solutions, assesses current needs and gains awareness of potential future opportunities in the context of the overall automation strategy
  • Participates in system planning processes - as automation subject matter expert during discussions of scope, scalability, and feasibility for new projects
  • Supports best practices for applications development and long-term collaborations
  • Drafts plans for testing and validation to ensure that the systems are operating within specification and robust against errors
  • Creates documentation and training plans for new and existing processes


POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • BS/MS in science or engineering discipline, with 6+ years of lab automation experience in life sciences; or equivalent combination of both.
  • 3+ years leading a team
  • In-depth experience programming complex automated liquid handling systems
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Project management and change management.
  • High comfort level working in a diverse, ambiguous and a fast pace environment.
  • Ability to look at situations from several points of view.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate facts and data and develop an understanding of complex matters.
  • Creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate productively will be critical to success in this position.
  • Strong analytical skills with drive to synthesize the story into an actionable set of recommendation
  • Experience developing connections between lab automation systems and laboratory information management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Has knowledge of different operating systems (PC and Servers) in Windows, Apple, and Linux distributions
  • Comprehends databases, scripts, and data migration scenarios
