JOB SUMMARY

This vacancy may be filled at the Assessment Technician I, II or III level. Candidates need only to apply once; all applications will be screened for the minimum requirements at the highest level they are qualified for. In the case of higher-level vacancies, names from the eligible list will be referred based on qualifying level. For lower-level vacancies, higher level candidates on the eligible list may not be excluded from being referred.

Under general supervision, assists in the performance of a variety of general and routine clerical work and updates the County assessment roll.

The ideal candidate would have experience working with legal documents in an Assessor's office, Recorder's office, title company, mortgage broker, real estate office, surveying office or law office.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Performs customer service functions by providing information and assistance in person and by telephone.
  2. Assists customers in preparing/filing property documentation.
  3. Checks property statements, forms, records, and other assessment material for accuracy, completion and conformance with established procedures.
  4. Prepares business questionnaires to identify personal property.
  5. Prepares and mails business property statements and business, aircraft and vessel questionnaires.
  6. Assists in the review, posting, and filing for the Secured Roll.
  7. Checks for accuracy and posts exemptions on computer program.
  8. Reviews secured and unsecured files for accuracy.
  9. Researches returned mail, makes address corrections and forwards to taxpayers.
  10. Copies and distributes maps, correspondence, reports, and related documents.
  11. Collects payments for maps and other documents.
  12. Sorts/organizes documents to be filed; files documents in designated order; locates/removes files; maintains file system of departmental records.
  13. Operates a computer to research and/or update database information; performs data entry functions by entering, modifying and reviewing data in computer system.
  14. Prepares and/or generates various correspondence and documentation.
  15. Reviews various documentation and processes, forwards, or takes other action as appropriate.
  16. Assembles and updates materials.
  17. Maintains inventory of departmental supplies and initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
  18. Assists in monitoring departmental expenditures.
  19. Answers the telephone, provides information, takes messages and/or directs calls as appropriate.
  20. Responds to requests for information or assistance.
EXAMPLES OF MARGINAL DUTIES
  1. Files vessel and aircraft records.
  2. Posts values and assessment numbers to vessel/aircraft files.
  3. Audits daily listings from data processing to insure accuracy.
  4. Writes receipts for map copies/screen printouts and certified documents.
  5. Refers customers to various agencies regarding special assessments.
  6. Uses and is familiar with electronic archiving.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following are the minimum qualifications for this position. Possession of these qualifications does not ensure that an applicant will be interviewed. Applications will be reviewed in comparison with all other applications received.

Assessment Technician I
Equivalent to one year of responsible clerical experience above the training level which includes the processing of records and filing of documents, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Assessment Technician II
Equivalent to three years of general clerical experience, at least two years of which must have included the performance of assessment clerical duties or two years of Assessment Technician I experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Assessment Technician III
Four years of general clerical experience, at least two years of which must have included the performance of assessment clerical duties in the secured and unsecured assessment rolls or two years of Assessment Technician II experience (training in appraisal techniques and experience in title research desired), or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; some positions require sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, data entry, and/or use of calculators, ten-key adding machine, or other office equipment or supplies.
