The Administrative Coordinator/Pharmacy Technician reports directly to the Director of Retail Pharmacy. They assist the Director of Pharmacy in all aspects with all current and future PIH Health Retail Pharmacies. Perform non-judgmental aspects of high-level secretarial duties in accordance with departmental objectives assuring optimal productivity of the Pharmacy Department. Timely distribution of meeting minutes, reports, pharmacy staff reminders (i.e. licensure, CBTs, CPR, etc.), temperature/cleaning logs, policy updates, office supplies ordering/stocking, pharmacy dashboard, pharmacy statistics, nursing inspections, projects, and other assignment(s) as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. Effectively schedules meetings, compile data for Pharmacy Audits (i.e. pharmacy inventories, drug initiatives, negative drug losses etc.), sort/file narcotic sheets, and submits maintenance requests on behalf of the Pharmacy Department. Train and oversee volunteers utilized for administrative purposes. As a Pharmacy Technician, perform the following non-judgmental duties involved in working in a retail environment under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist: obtaining patient information specific to creating an electronic patient profile, obtain prescription insurance information and accurately enter it in the pharmacy system, check that information on a prescription is complete and legible at the time of drop-off, retrieve the correct medication from inventory, stock/order/update inventory according to established process, prepare medical insurance claims, direct clinical patient questions to the pharmacist for consultation, properly and accurately ring out the patient, inform Pharmacist when there is a new prescription being picked up which requires consultation, and other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacist-on-Duty. Maintain an ethical, professional behavior ensuring efficient, accurate, timely distribution and control of medications dispensed through the Outpatient Pharmacy and keep current on Federal and State regulations as they pertain to pharmacy in a retail setting. Maintain a positive attitude representing the pharmacy, as well as the entire hospital.


Required Skills

  • Possess a proficient level of computer (minimum typing skills of 40 wpm)
  • Verbal/written communication skills and ability to prioritize is required.
  • Able to adapt to Pharmacy needs and possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately and independently.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.

Required Experience
  • High school graduate
  • Active California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program recognized by the California State Board of Pharmacy
  • Minimum of one year experience as a California Licensed Pharmacy Technician in a community/retail setting and experience with pharmacy systems/processes
  • Minimum of one year of clerical experience
  • Two years of computer experience with knowledge of basics Windows applications and Excel.

Preferred:

  • College degree in a Business-related major is preferred
