Job description


VOLT is hiring for a Journeyman Electrician in Santa Clara, California.

This position involves industrial electrical work and your responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshooting, installation, and documentation of electrical and control needs for facility switchgear, breaker panels, lighting, and process equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Importantly, this is not a helper position; you'll be directly responsible for maintaining and assisting site engineering teams to meet electrical requirements.
  • Maintain current and future plant electrical systems.
  • Support plant electrical expansion projects.
  • Adhere to Federal, State, and Local electrical codes and be familiar with NFPA70e.
  • Assist in designing electrical systems.
  • Repair all plant electrical items.
  • Collaborate with electrical service companies, engineers, and plant leadership to ensure the local grid functions optimally.
  • May be required to maintain and improve control systems, install electrical subpanels/services, and buss plugs.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair process/production machines and related electrical equipment, including electrical control circuits from instrumentation devices, PLCs/ladder logic controllers, and variable frequency drives.
  • Effectively communicate with site management and customers to understand requirements, solve complex electrical problems, and provide manufacturing solutions.
  • Identify and correct safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations.
  • Procure parts from crib systems, OEMs, or authorized vendors.
  • Identify and document cost savings.
  • Utilize strong electrical skills to complete assignments.
  • Create and modify site operations procedures for equipment and recommend facilities reliability improvements.
  • Provide instruction, mentorship, and training to less skilled technicians.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on process/production equipment as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Respond to work orders, ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recommend activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving them.
  • Understand company policies and enforce safety regulations.
  • Safely perform functions, including following proper safety guidelines (job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures) and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operate various measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to provide energy efficiency solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a current CA State Electrical License.
  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • 6 years' experience as an electrician in an industrial environment, maintenance shop, or manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with repair on electrical equipment in an industrial environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate strong organizational/time management skills needed to be successful in this role.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment background check and substance abuse test.
  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial production systems such as switchgear, MCC's, and Capacitor banks.
  • Experience working around chemicals, precision equipment, and highly regulated materials and equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, gearboxes, supply and exhaust fans, power transmission components.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing cranes and hoists.
  • Experience utilizing measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM Specifications.


Pay Rate: $50.00 - 75.00/hour
Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
