Job description
Under general supervision, the primary role of the Fitness Specialist is to inspire and assist residents at all levels of living to meet their fitness and wellness goals. The Fitness Specialist aids residents in attaining and maintaining good health through physical activity while providing a safe environment, encouragement, support, and supervision.
Full-time, flexible schedule
Monday-Friday, 8 A.M.-4 P.M., Tuesday-Saturday, 9 A.M.- 5 P.M.
Pay: $25 to $29 depending on experience
Working with residents and team members in each level of care, teach and lead fitness, strength, balance, mobility, and aqua (if applicable) classes addressing our residents' physical, mental, and social needs.
Gather data about participating residents and document fitness progress and growth
Educate and motivate residents on self-awareness and physical self-management goals
Inspect and verify that fitness equipment is operating in optimal conditions and that resident/team members are properly operating the fitness equipment.
Organize educational workshops and seminars on topics related to fitness and healthy aging, empowering residents to make informed choices about their well-being.
Actively engage residents in fitness-related activities and events, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants.
To be successful in the role, you would have:
Education
Associate's degree with emphasis in recreation, health education or related field; and college course work in social work, gerontology, psychology, recreation therapy or related field; preferred, but not required
College course work in fitness, kinesiology, exercise science, gerontology, recreation therapy or related field; preferred but not required
Experience/Training
1 or 2 years of experience, preferably in a geriatric setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Two or more years of direct programming experience with older adults.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA or any other relevant certifications desired, but not mandatory for the position.
CPR and First Aid certification is required for any team member acting as a first responder.
