Title: Quality Assurance Adminitrator 3

Duration: 4 months Contract

Note: Recruiting replacement contractor for incomplete project

Location: San Francisco, CA

Job Description:

• Required: Either an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent degree.

• Preferred: Two or more years' experience cataloging collections for special or academic libraries.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Deep appreciation for and demonstrated understanding of the purpose and structure of library-related authority metadata.

• Experience with working with controlled vocabularies, through data remediation/update activities; broad experience with different types of vocabularies (e.g., LC vocabularies, Wikidata, ISNI).

• Knowledge of and basic experience in applying current cataloging procedures and principles as defined in RDA, MARC Bibliographic, Holdings, and Authorities formats.

• Familiarity with, and ability to increase your skill set in, various tools for metadata querying, analysis, remediation, batch-loading & mapping, such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, SPARQL, XSLT, and scripting languages; knowledge of RDF, XML, and other machine actionable metadata languages; basic understanding of APIs.

• Familiarity with linked data principles, standards, and applications; understanding of library-oriented ontologies such as BIBFRAME.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex and exacting work.

• Effective oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, as a team member, and across organizational boundaries.

• Flexibility to be organized, productive and effective in a dynamic environment, involved with a variety of simultaneous projects.

• High level of proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems); high level computer competency kept up to date through continuous learning.

• Proven ability to develop, implement and manage short- and long-term projects.

• Commitment to professional development and service.

Physical Requirements:

• Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

• Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weight up to 10 pounds.

• Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).

• Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.

• Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded bookcart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

• May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold; Work setting has natural and artificial light.
