Position Overview

The Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role in supporting parents as their child's first and most important teacher. This position is responsible for designing and facilitating parent-child interactive classes for children ages 0-5 years, providing opportunities for parents to engage in meaningful interactions with their children while learning developmentally appropriate activities. The educator helps parents understand developmental milestones, encourages ongoing learning at home, and provides parent education to strengthen the parent-child bond. This role also facilitates a virtual self care group for Black and African American parents/caregivers, and may support with monthly in-person events for the self care group. Additionally includes conducting developmental screenings, maintaining accurate data entry, and fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Compensation: $26-$26.50/hour

Schedule: 30 hours/week

Qualifications:

Minimum of one year of experience in early childhood education or a related field, or an Associate/Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, human services, or a similar discipline.

Experience working with children ages 0-5 and their families, with a focus on early childhood education or a related field.

Knowledge of child development and developmental milestones, with the ability to communicate this information effectively to parents.

Cultural humility and competence, and a deep understanding of the strengths and unique challenges faced by Black and African American families

Ability to develop warm and supportive relationships with young children, parents, colleagues and community members of diverse populations, including English language learners

Organizational and multitasking abilities to manage class schedules, developmental screenings, and data entry responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Develop and lead parent-child interactive classes on topics such as infant playgroups, art, music, early math and science, and other social-emotional & school readiness classes for children ages 0-5 years.

Guide parents in learning developmentally appropriate activities that support their child's growth, fostering parent-child bonding and communication.

Share information on developmental milestones and how to support their child's progress at various stages of early development.

Provide tools and strategies for parents to continue engaging their children in learning activities outside of the Center, promoting ongoing development at home.

Facilitate parent education activities that cover topics such as parenting strategies, child development, ways to support their child's learning, and community building.

Conduct developmental screenings to assess the progress of children and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

Ensure accurate data entry for developmental screenings, class participation, and other relevant program information into the database.

Collaborate with the team to continuously improve programs, ensuring that they are inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive to the diverse needs of families.

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
