Job description
A Nutanix Senior Engineer to perform the following:
Deployment and Implementation
Assessment and Planning:
o Collaborate with DSN Systems Engineers and stakeholders to understand requirements and configure Nutanix HCI solutions that meet those needs.
o Create detailed implementation plans, including hardware, software, and network configurations and related diagrams.
o See Section 7.0 for deliverables and schedule. All assessment and planning artifacts to be reviewed and approved by DSN Technical Lead and Task Manager.
Installation and Configuration:
o Install Nutanix clusters, including setting up Nutanix hardware (nodes, blocks) and software components.
o Configure Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) and Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP)
o Set up storage, compute, and networking components within the Nutanix environment.
o Configure Nutanix clusters using Nutanix Prism for optimal performance and health
o Configure compute, storage, and networking resources to ensure efficient utilization.
o Configure asynchronous/synchronous replication
o Configure Nutanix networking (LACP, VLAN, fault tolerance) based on best practices.
o Implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
o Implement hybrid cloud infrastructure, integrating Nutanix with AWS
Security Implementation and Compliance:
o Implement Nutanix security best practices within the NCI environments, including data encryption, access controls, multifactor authentication, and network security measures.
o Ensure that the Nutanix infrastructure complies with NASA/JPL relevant regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
o JPL Security will conduct vulnerability scans. Nutanix RE to support remediation of vulnerabilities found during scans.
o Create patch management plan and procedures.
Monitoring:
o Implement system performance and health monitoring using Nutanix Prism. 1.2 Virtual Machine Migration
Assessment and Planning:
Conduct a thorough assessment of DSN's current Oracle Xen environment, including VM configurations, network settings, storage usage, and dependencies.
Plan the migration process, considering the downtime window, resource allocation, and potential risks.
Document the migration process, including steps taken, configurations, and any issues encountered for future reference. See Section 7.0 for deliverables and schedule. All assessment and planning artifacts to be reviewed and approved by DSN Technical Lead and Task Manager.
Migration:
Migrate VMs from Oracle Xen to Nutanix AHV.
Conduct post-migration testing and validation.
Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations to improve system efficiency.
Migration, testing and optimization activities to be reviewed and approved by DSN Technical Lead prior to execution.
1.3 Support and Troubleshooting
Technical Support:
o Provide technical support for Nutanix infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and resolving problems.
o Work with Nutanix support and other third-party vendors to address and resolve complex issues.
1.4 Automation and Scripting
Automation:
o Use Ansible or other automation platforms to automate deployment and management tasks.
Scripting:
o Write and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline repetitive tasks and improve efficiency.
o Write scripts for various administrative tasks, using languages like PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
o Scripts to be reviewed and approved by DSN Technical Lead.
1.5 Documentation and Training
Documentation:
o Create and maintain documentation as identified in sections above and in Section 7.0 for Nutanix deployments, configurations, and procedures. All documentation to be delivered electronically to JPL.
Training and Knowledge Transfer:
o Provide on-the-job training sessions and knowledge transfer as it pertains to configuration of DSN clusters. o Provide training material specific to DSN configurations to DSN teams during deployment and implementation of NCI.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of Nutanix HCI, AHV, and associated technologies.
Proficiency in virtualization platforms, preferably Oracle Xen.
Proficiency with RHEL full stack
Experience with storage, compute, and networking technologies.
Proficiency with network analysis or troubleshooting skills (Wireshark, iPerf, or Tcpdump)
Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Certifications:
Nutanix Certified Advanced Professional (NCAP) or Nutanix Certified Master (NCM).
