As a senior member of the Manufacturing & Clinical Supply Facilities & Engineering (MCS-F&E) Automation team you will ensure successful Drug Substance manufacturing and innovation in the Pilot Plant Network. You will be trusted to exhibit solid performance in a range of professional and technical skills that ensure flawless execution of production and drive next generation technology development in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment. To successfully navigate this dynamic role, one must develop a mastery of automation controls, equipment process knowledge, analytical problem-solving techniques, critical thinking, project management, lifecycle management, and execution excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Day-to-day operational support including: rotational 24x7 on-call support
Develop and maintain process control automation solutions using DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS).
Lead technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting on process control issues related to plant operations.
Investigate and implement new manufacturing or process automation technologies.
Identify and implement continuous improvement projects that align with Amgen initiatives around Safety, Reliability, Efficiency and Environmental sustainability.
Maintain automation system health and resiliency via cybersecurity, data integrity, and preventative maintenance in alignment with the latest Amgen and industry standards
Refine or create business processes and procedures including departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Manufacturing Automation Engineering experience OR
Associates degree and 8 years of Manufacturing Automation Engineering experience OR
Bachelors degree and 4 years of Manufacturing Automation Engineering experience OR
Masters degree and 2 years of Manufacturing Automation Engineering experience OR
Doctorate degree
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years combined experience with the following:
Emerson DeltaV DCS system with batch control and recipe management
System Integration using OPC, Profibus, EIP, WIOC, and DeviceNet technologies.
DeltaV Virtual infrastructure configuration, management, and troubleshooting
Mastery of hands-on troubleshooting of complex process automation systems; to be carried out in partnership with adjacent support teams, e.g. plant engineering, instrumentation.
Background in programming, code design, manufacturing process controls, and biopharmaceutical equipment instrumentation.
Direct experience with biopharmaceutical equipment automation design, process control engineering, and troubleshooting. Example equipment: bioreactors, chromatography skids.
Experience with Capital Project Lifecycle Management: conceptual design, scope and cost estimate development, business case development, detailed design, engineering and validation documentation, and project execution.
Familiarity with drug substance manufacturing at the unit operation level.
Strong leadership, technical writing, and communication/presentation skills.
Independent, self-motivated, organized, and able to drive projects to desired outcome.
Team player that leverages collaboration for effective decision-making and execution.
Mentor with a base desire to help team members grow and thrive for the collective good.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
