Job Description:
The Practitioner I duties include; but not limited to, processing multi-state multi-entity payroll and performing underlying functions such as timesheets, payroll data entry, reporting, paycheck calculation and payroll transmission while adhering to tight deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Update and maintain current employee record payroll information in HRMS/Payroll database as needed
Check timesheets for completeness and accuracy and coordinate corrections with managers
Audit timecards and import and balance hours from Time System
Review and process pays adhering to state regulations and company policies
Calculate overtime, pay rate differential and other applicable special pay calculations
Place stop payments and direct deposit reversals as needed
Prepare and balance pay data and manual adjustment batches
Complete pay transactions: Leave of absence, transfers, job status changes and terminations
Calculate and process manual checks and paid time off accrual adjustments
Validate payroll preview data using various reports and Excel templates and complete corrections prior to transmission
Meet payroll transmission deadline
Research discrepancies effectively, make appropriate corrections, and respond promptly to manager and employee inquiries
Maintain effective working relationships with other departments
Provide support to Human Resources, operations and department leaders with payroll processes
Assist with handling Payroll Questions email, special projects
Calculate retroactive pay adjustments
Complete and process garnishments from distribution to setup
Review payroll salary allocation changes for accuracy and assign as needed
Provide paycheck calculation guidance to employees when needed
Assist managers and employees with time card procedure inquiries and training
Develop and distribute custom payroll reports
Assist with special projects, participate in meetings, and complete other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
Five years of experience in Payroll managerial position or any similar combination of education and experience required.
Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
Must be trustworthy, personable and able to work independently without the need for micromanagement.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong mathematical skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
High proficiency in MS Office suite with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred; (Pivot Tables and v-lookups are a must)
Proficient with payroll software and interfaces.
Ability to work in a demanding and dynamic fast-paced environment with the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to changing needs and situations
Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) - preferred
Physical Demands
This position often requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting reaching with hands and arms, using hands and fingers, handling, constant talking, and hearing. Visual acuity to read computer screens and written materials. Also, must be able to lift over 20 pounds, occasionally.
Pay Range:
USD $28.00 - USD $28.00 /per hour
