This position is a partnership between Long Beach USD and California Schools Talent Collaborative
The Position: The CDC teacher may be assigned to work in a child care and development program that can include, but is not limited to: a pre-school or school age program or a combination of both. This position works under the direction of the site Coordinating Teacher in a center based program. Teacher's will provide a developmentally appropriate educational supportive program and support parents as the child's primary teacher by involving them in educational activities at home. This position is responsible for ensuring the care and comfort of all children; for planning and implementing the daily program, observing and assessing children, encouraging parent participation in the classroom and other child learning activities and making adaptations in the program to meet the needs of individual children.
The CDC is authorized to supervise a child care and development program, which includes, but is not limited to preschool and school age care. Provide service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program; and serve as a coordinator of curriculum and staff development in a child care and development program.

II. Examples of Duties:
Duties may include but are not limited to:
A. Is responsible for supervision, instruction, and care of children.
B. Plans and implements the curriculum.
C. Performs duties as delegated by the Coordinating Teacher such as:
1. Opens and closes the center, maintains close supervision of program including opening and closing hours.
2. Supervises the education aide and assists in keeping records including calculation and collection of fees, writing receipts, keeping of payroll and attendance records.
3. Orders and manages supplies.
4. Establishes and maintains a staff schedule geared to the needs of the children, adjusts the schedule as necessary.
5. Assigns duties and supervises performance of child care workers, participating parents, observers, volunteers and student participants.
6. Provides orientation and information for observers and visitors.
7. In the absence of the Coordinating Teacher, communicates with the licensing agency; appropriate action to correct deficiencies that constitute immediate threats to children's health and safety.
D. Establishes and maintains a close relationship with the parent and school in all aspects of the daily program.
E. Follows all district rules and policies relating to school plant, staff and children, rules and policies relating specifically to the individual center and school on whose grounds the center is located.
F. Refers to the Coordinating Teacher, Program Coordinator, or Director all questions on policy or child behavior.
G. Demonstrates and supervises proper use and care of all materials and equipment.
H. Attends scheduled staff meetings.
I. Shares responsibility for representing the center at professional meetings, IEPs, conferences, workshops, committees and meetings of the Parent Advisory Council.
J. Establishes and maintains good staff relationships among all Child Development Centers personnel.
K. Shares in the development of a program for education, participation, and involvement of parents of children in the centers.
L. Performs such other duties as assigned by Coordinating Teacher or appropriate manager.
Qualifications:
Certification and Education
Hold or be eligible for a valid California Child Development Teacher Permit
Hold an Associate of Arts Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or a related field or 60 units of college-level work with 24 units ECE/CD including core courses plus 16 units in general education courses
Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid, CPR, Mandated Child Abuse Training, Integrated Pest Management certification, Water Safety, and Health & Safety certification. May require Operations and Record Keeping Step II Licensing Training
Experience
Successful experience in an Early Childhood Education program or previous experience working with children will be considered.

Health Requirements
Must meet state health requirements, including undergoing a physical examination at the time of employment
Must have current TB clearance at time of employment issued within the last 60 days prior to employment and renewed every four years
Must be physically fit and have the ability to restrain or lift, a 30-40 lb. child, in case of an emergency, and materials and training equipment.
Special Requirements
Must have the use of an automobile, adequate automobile insurance coverage, a valid California driver's license, or must have available private transportation
May be assigned to any one of the program options or to more than one site
May be assigned to various daily and weekly schedules in order to facilitate the implementation of the program
Child Development teachers new to the district are required to be fingerprinted. A background check which includes a DOJ, FBI, and Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) check if the facility to which you are applying provides care and supervision to children.
