Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Lab and Development Manager to join the Data Center Power and Control Division Team in Lake Forest, CA. The Engineering Lab and Development Manager supporting the Approved Networks brand manages a team of technicians, technical support engineers and R&D engineers dedicated to - developing and testing optical transceivers. As well as providing hands on assistance in developing coding of optical transceivers for various switches, servers and ancillary devices. This role involves applying advanced engineering principles to ensure high-quality performance and reliability of optical components. The manager coordinates projects across technical teams and vendors/contract manufactures, monitors project deliverables, and ensures milestones are met to enhance efficiency and production quality in the fast-paced hyperscale, enterprise and telecommunication environments. Strong leadership, effective communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential to drive the success of engineering initiatives.

What Will You Do?

Lead and support lab production, quality control, and R&D engineering teams, fostering a culture of quality and safety.

Mentor technicians and engineers, promoting best practices and enhancing team capabilities through knowledge-sharing sessions.

Oversee daily lab operations, ensuring efficient workflows, adherence to production schedules, and timely project completion.

Prioritize and delegate tasks effectively, monitoring progress and addressing bottlenecks.

Establish, refine, and enforce quality control standards and protocols, conducting regular audits to identify areas for improvement.

Implement corrective actions and preventive measures based on quality assessments.

Maintain the integrity of EEPROM master BIN files, collaborating with engineering colleagues for seamless integration with optical transceiver processes.

Collaborate with leadership to establish performance standards and metrics, conducting semi-annual and annual performance reviews to provide feedback and identify growth opportunities.

Promote a culture of accountability and excellence through goal-setting and performance tracking.

Develop, document, and implement lab processes to enhance operational clarity and consistency.

Identify training needs and support employee growth initiatives, mentoring team members for career progression.

Step into leadership roles as needed, representing the engineering team in leadership meetings and advocating for resources and support.

Engage in leadership discussions to align departmental strategies with organizational goals and share insights on team performance and project status.

Qualifications:
Required Skills

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

Experience:

5+ years' experience working in engineering roles, with at least 2-3 years in a management or supervisory capacity.

Experience in data center or telecommunications a plus.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills.

Ideally the candidate will have a CCNA, CONA, or similar certification.

Ability to motivate and mentor technicians while resolving conflicts and building strong teams.

Strong understanding of engineering principles, circuit design, and industry standards.

Ability to troubleshoot engineering challenges and evaluate project risks with critical thinking.

Aligning projects with organizational goals while ensuring high standards through quality control processes.

Willingness to stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.

Excellent written and verbal skills.
