The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its 300+ faculty and clinician members and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients.

Responsibilities:
Oversees daily operations and provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals and objectives in accordance with established policies. Reviews recommendations for programs and initiatives. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines optimal deployment of resources to meet schedules and achieve goals.

The Director, Business Intelligence (BI) & Analytics reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC). This role is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights to support strategic planning, operational efficiency, and compliance with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) requirements for data collection and reporting. The NCI designation has a vital reputational and financial impact for CFCCC, UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of the organization for structure, direction, and fiscal management.

Responsibilities include:
• Strategic Leadership: Sets the vision and strategy for BI & Analytics at CFCCC ensuring alignment with overall goals.
• Data Strategy: Develops and implements data strategies, including governance, quality, and integration, to ensure reliable and actionable insights and accurate and timely reporting.
• Team Management: Leads the BI & Analytics team of analysts.
• Analytics Oversight: Manages the design, development and deployment of analytical models and BI tools to support CFCCC business functions and NCI P30 CCSG requirements.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Works with UCI, UCI Health and CFCCC leadership to identify key business questions and deliver insights that drive decision-making.
• Technology and Tools: Evaluates and selects BI and analytics tools and ensures their effective integration and use across CFCCC.

Qualifications:
Required:

Strong knowledge of business intelligence principles, concepts and methodologies.

Proven ability to plan, organize, assign, and delegate work, and effectively prioritize.

Ability to effectively manage and influence professionals. Ability to create and maintain a climate of collaboration and trust.

Ability to analyze information, think conceptually and formulate effective solutions.

Ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and performance issues. Ability to build relationships and mentor staff.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical language and layman's terms.

Proven ability to deliver presentations to large and / or diverse audiences.

Proven conflict resolution skills.

Proficient in all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access), BI / database applications and reporting tools.

Proficient in Tableau software and/or other data visualization software tools

Experience in Advarra Forte's Research Evaluation System (EVAL), Enterprise Research System (OnCore), and Agilent's Core Facilities Management Software (iLab)

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

A minimum of 10 years of directly related professional experience responsible for informatics/database/IT in an academic or research environment required.

Experience with large multidisciplinary, multi-component research grants (e.g., Cancer Center Support Grant) required.

Preferred:

Knowledge of pertinent policies, procedures, regulations and requirements of UC, State, Federal, and other agencies pertaining to research and administrative management of grants and contracts

Knowledge of University of California policies about research administration, finances and human resources

Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Special Conditions:

Requires travel to the Orange campus, Irvine campus, and off-site locations for meetings/events.

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. Position is subject to the California DMV's Pull Notice System and continued employment is contingent on proof of satisfactory driving record.

Requires regional travel within California multiple times per year.

Requires annual attendance at national meetings held in different U.S. locations.
