Blood Bank Supervisor

Location: Indio, CA

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor to join our partner medical facility in Indio, CA. This is a key leadership role within the laboratory, responsible for overseeing the daily operations, ensuring compliance, and mentoring staff in the Blood Bank section.

Responsibilities:

Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Blood Bank section, ensuring efficient workflow, optimal resource utilization, and adherence to quality standards.

Compliance: Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and accreditation standards related to blood bank practices, ensuring the safety and efficacy of blood transfusions.

Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of blood bank testing and procedures.

Staff Supervision: Supervise and mentor Blood Bank staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.

Technical Expertise: Maintain a high level of technical expertise in blood banking, including blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and transfusion practices.

Inventory Management: Manage blood product inventory, ensuring adequate supply and proper storage conditions.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency and patient safety.

Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other laboratory departments, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, laboratory science, or a related field.

Experience:

Completion of an internship for Clinical Laboratory Science or Laboratory specialty.

At least 5 years of training or experience, or both, in blood banking.

Prior leadership and/or supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Current and valid CLS license issued by the State of California Department of Health.

Must complete a minimum of 12 continuing education units per year as required by license.

Skills and Attributes:

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

In-depth knowledge of blood bank procedures, regulations, and best practices.

Ability to perform bench work when needed.
