Another Source's client, Fresno State University, is recruiting a Director of Student Accounts to join their team onsite in Fresno, CA.

Under the general direction of the University Controller, the Director of Student Accounts oversees the operations of the Student Accounts Office, Customer Service, and University Cashiers Office. The Director provides leadership to staff, develops and implements policies to ensure regulatory compliance, and enhances operational efficiency. This role is crucial in planning and executing interdepartmental initiatives, fostering collaboration across campus, and ensuring timely and accurate student communications. Additionally, the Director manages and updates the department's web content for clarity and accessibility

What you will be doing:

The Director of Student Accounts oversees the daily operations of the Student Accounts and University Cashiers Offices, ensuring the efficient management of financial transactions, staff supervision, and compliance with Federal, State, CSU, and University policies. This role is pivotal in managing the assessment, collection, and reporting of student fees, safeguarding payments, and enhancing financial literacy among students.

The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $95,000- 120,000 based on experience.

How you will be spending your time:

Leadership and Staff Development:

Provide strategic oversight and day-to-day management of the Student Accounts Office and University Cashiers Office.

Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, ensuring proper segregation of duties and internal controls.

Foster a culture of professional development, offering cross-functional training and performance management.

Financial Operations:

Oversee the accurate assessment and collection of student fees, including tuition, housing, dining, and other mandatory charges.

Ensure timely implementation and communication of new fees and changes, working closely with campus stakeholders.

Manage student tuition calculations, fee waivers, and reconciliations.

Student Engagement and Financial Literacy:

Advise students on financial holds, class cancellations, tuition waivers, and loan management.

Promote financial literacy by educating students on maintaining good financial standing.

Implement and manage processes to reduce financial holds and class cancellations.

Collections and Compliance:

Manage collection efforts for outstanding student fees, working with collection agencies as necessary.

Ensure compliance with CSU policies on cash handling, deposits, and PCI standards.

Customer Service:

Build and maintain strong relationships with key campus departments (Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, etc.) to enhance student services.

Develop a customer service model focused on providing exceptional support to students and the campus community.

Technology and Process Improvement:

Manage and optimize the Transact Cashiering System.

Continuously seek innovative technologies to improve payment and deposit processes, reducing reliance on cash transactions.

Implement strategies to minimize armored transport deposit pickups and manage petty cash boxes across campus.

Reporting and Policy Development:

Prepare reports for campus fee committees and other stakeholders.

Participate in CSU system-wide activities, contributing to policy and procedure development.

Lead or participate in campus committees and project teams to drive continuous improvement in operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.

Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or closely related area with demonstrated success in supervision and first line management.

Experience with working with complex ERP systems and the ability to understand both functional and technical requirements related to the system aspects of the position.

Working knowledge of accounting and internal control principles and practices, especially as related to public universities.

Ability to research and work with tax laws as they relate to the responsibilities of this position.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.

Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

Experience tracking customer service data metrics and using the data to continuously improve business operations.

Strong understanding of Federal and State rules and regulations as they relate to higher education.

Previous work experience managing and safeguarding financial aid funds, including analysis and reconciliation.
