Manager, Traffic Safety and Community Programs

Responsible for leading the organization's traffic safety efforts and developing, planning, organizing, managing, and conducting high quality and impactful traffic safety and community classes, programs, and events, including in partnership with key legislative districts, public agencies, and traffic safety and community partners. Select events should be designed to appeal to media for earned news coverage. Implements programs that promote corporate citizenship and build the organization's reputation with elected and appointed officials, in communities, with partners, and with the media. Through these efforts, increase the organization's good will with elected and appointed officials and help strengthen the organization's political engagement and legislative and regulatory effectiveness and influence. This includes traffic safety and community programs, materials, advertising, press releases, traffic safety summits, product-related programs, and conferences and seminars to maintain reputation and visibility of the organization and its priorities. Ensure the organization's identity and image is maintained in the best possible light and with maximum visibility. Prepares and distributes organization information through various means to government agencies and officials, media, community and industry leaders and stakeholders. Serve as spokesperson at traffic safety, legislative, regulatory, and public policy forums, professional organizations, and with the media. Work directly with senior management and executives and represents senior management in organizations and appearances. Lead development of, contributes to, conduct, and is responsible for outcomes of traffic safety efforts and community programs, and public policy advocacy activities in these areas.

Responsibilities:

Traffic Safety and Community Programs - Develop and implement successful traffic safety and community programs that are aligned with the organization's priorities and valued by members, support business units, promote the brand, attractive to the media, and advance public policy goals. Create and update traffic safety materials, curriculum, and online content that is engaging, reflects the latest research and best practices, includes approved priorities, strategies, and messaging, meets Auto Club Enterprises-wide needs, and is customizable for use across Auto Club Enterprises. Provide expertise and assistance for the targeted expansion and improvement of traffic safety efforts across Auto Club Enterprises, especially in markets with limited resources. Provide leadership and direction in developing, advocating for and implementing effective programs to improve traffic safety outcomes. Ensure programs reach broad and targeted external and internal audiences, and are perceived as contributing positively to the organization's reputation. Serve as the organization's principal representative with local, state, and national traffic safety, regulatory, and law enforcement bodies and professional societies that develop and implement policies and legislation and regulations affecting traffic safety.

Communications - Work with Public Affairs Management and staff and ACE operating units to promote products and services, including insurance, travel, automotive, traffic safety, advocacy, and others. Seek opportunities to increase awareness and coverage of insurance and membership products. Devise innovative approaches to challenges, identify threats and opportunities, and develop plans to address them. Function as a spokesperson for the organization to the media and in other public forums. Inspire confidence and trust and maintain excellent relationships within and outside of the organization. Complete and contribute to all applicable and approved Public Affairs goals.

Advocacy and Public Policy - Help develop thoughtful motorist and traffic safety policy priorities and strategies for internal review and approval. Identify, analyze, and help determine positions on motorist and traffic safety proposals. Use Foundation research in policy analysis, recommendations, and advocacy. Represent the organization on or before AAA and other external boards and committees relevant to the organization's priorities and strategies. Speak at select traffic safety, media, and other forums, meetings, and events. Support Automotive, Insurance, and Branch Operations business issues and priorities when needed.

Leadership/Teamwork - Help develop, maintain, and improve relationships of mutual respect and trust within California and Texas Public Affairs and across ACE Public Affairs. Work with the Group Manager of Public Affairs and Public Policy to develop, approve, and implement short and long-term communications, traffic safety, advocacy, and public policy goals and strategies. Develop articles for Westways and other Auto Club Enterprises Publications and contribute to other communication channels. Support changes and shifts to programs and priorities as determined by the organization through creative and innovative program evolution. Prepare reports to the Public Affairs Committee, staff officers, and others. Help develop and maintain positive department camaraderie and morale.

Qualifications

Bachelors' equivalent combination of education and experience required

7-9 years analyzing, developing public policy positions on, and advocating for effective transportation policies and programs and resource augmentation required

1-3 years management preferred

Outstanding traffic safety and community programs knowledge with a superior proven record of results

Comprehensive oral and written communications skills, including effectively communicating complex technical issues to lay audiences

Comprehensive ability to interact well with broad variety of groups and individuals

Advanced ability to successfully develop and implement initiatives and programs

Proficiency in MS Office programs and specialized hardware and software necessary for technical tasks

California vehicle operator's license and excellent driving record required
